Raptor Club
on: January 23, 2014, 09:13:03 PM
i didn't see one, so i figured why not make my first thread?

technically i bought this for my s/o, who is an e.r. trauma nurse, and gets to go to work tonight and lord it over the other er folk.  but, i count myself in the club since i'll still get to maintenance and play with it, it's still in the family, as it were.

and as usual i apologize for my potato shots, which you have probably already seen, but what's a thread without pics?

in the near future, it's not an impossibility.  it evolved from Sock Puppet Theatre, so there is a lot of diversity among the cast.

After checking out the Raptor for a couple days. It sure is a interesting design. It will go in my kit. The sheath could be better. I'm not sure how at the moment. But it could be tweaked some. It's to top heavy for one thing. Over all it seems to be all right for my needs.     :)

The one on the left is a sweet one for sure. Has a great trigger and runs like a well tuned sports car. Unfortunatly it is not mine. I get to shoot it on occaition it belongs to a friend of my brothers. He was out to do some shooting. When I saw he had the Kimber Raptor II with him I thought the Leatherman and Kimber would make for a good pic.    :)

Well, you can add me to the ranks!!!  I broke down and got a Raptor for my portable diabetic kit.

I got a opportunity to get a Raptor that I always wanted to try and took it.
It´s sweet. Love it so far. Only problem I can see is that one of the "blades" sometimes when handled wrong overtravel when opened or closed.(despite tightening the screw)
It´s already becoming visible on the speedbump that should hold it in place. Well it is no biggy.
Am I a paramedic that need it for work:absolutely not ! Am I a geek and need a pair of heavyduty scissors that look cool and are fun to play with. ! Oh yes !

I have had the Raptor since very early in its release and can honestly say I have possibly used it once if I remember correctly. I think I cut open a clamshell packaging with it. I am not saying it is a bad tool at all. I rather like the design and everything about it, but I just never really need it. Strangely I feel like I should not sell it as the second I do I will end up needing it for something.

Maybe my most disliked tool from Leatherman.
Only one that had issues but was fixed by warranty.
Only Leatherman that has bit me, twice actually. Maybe even three times.
I hate it can out turn so easily. The stopping pin should be much larger.
The plastic is cheap.
Its not that comfortable for my hands, bad actually.

Still its fun to own and play every now and then.
I don't hate it, it just has some really ugly things in it.

Also I'm pleased that Leatherman tried something new to them.
Also the limited edition colors look fantastic on Raptor.

Overall, I enjoy it as an item, and would not like to get rid of it.
But as medical shears it is a joke.

I've started a collection. There are six variations that I know of:

1. All black
2. Tan
3. Black and orange, exclusive to Cabela's
4. Red, exclusive to REI
5. Green, exclusive to Pacific Flyway Wholesalers, as far as I know only ever sold by Sportsman's Warehouse
6. All orange, claimed by Leatherman to have only ever been made in limited quantity as a pre-production samples, but claimed by others to have been available at Cabela's before a trademark claim was made bynFiskars over the orange handles

I have also heard from a Leatherman rep that there may have been a blue version, but only as pre-production samples.

So far I have only these three. The tan and the black/orange I can get any time, but I'm still desperately seeking an all-orange one, so if anyone has one or knows where I can find one, please let me know!

Hi guys!! I've loved the raptor since the 1st day they came out, but still haven't pulled the trigger... I'm not a paramedic, i'd use them for edc tasks and similar...Someone in the same situation? And above all, someone pushed it to the limit using it? What did you cut with it? Would be able to cut sheet metal, or maybe a wire fence using the ring cutter?
