Nice score indeed!I think I have only seen that awl on old Soldiers?
Agreed only ever seen it on pre 60's pioneers in alox .... Always a good day if I can find something interesting
That is a fantastic find. Makes the Pioneer 2223 look common by comparison. Quote from: jaydar on February 08, 2014, 06:59:12 PMAgreed only ever seen it on pre 60's pioneers in alox .... Always a good day if I can find something interesting Ditto - I've never seen that awl on anything but the very earliest Pioneers. I've always wondered if a Farmer or other alox knife would pop up with one. This has to be one of the first Farmers made. Too bad about the main blade. I'd be tempted to send it back to Victorinox with a good Elinox blade of the same vintage and see if they'd swap them.
Nice score. I have a Pioneer with the long/round awl but that Farmer beats it hands down, even with the semi-borked blade. maybe I could graft a saw into my pioneer...
I wanna move to Switzerland! You guys always have the best SAK finds.

I have genuinely looked into adding scissors to one though does that make me a bad person
relax, it was just a (not very funny) joke. That old Pioneer is probably the central gem of my collection. It's older than me and deserves respect. I would never take to that one with the tools. I was even especially gentle with cleaning it when it arrived as an unexpected bonus in a lot of 10 old knives. I could only see the front side in the auction photos and thought it was a "regular" old cross pioneer.
Found the same farmer, $9 find. Uncleaned, but also unsharpened. (Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)
$9...... Holy Smurf that's the find of a century right there.
Missed this last year - But just linked through from Enki's recent post.Love this old Farmer ... of course However isn't it a SAK that should not really exist In that the alox scales came in in '61 with the 'new' Soldier design, and the old awl was retired that same year?? - Or did the aloxcales come in a bit earlier?? I guess they must have done, if you guys have Pioneers with the old awl.
