Adapta Tool

Wonder what ever happened with the Adapta Tool? ???  (LINK) Seems like it would be pretty useful for some folks.

I think it's too bulky, especially with the specialized nature of sockets, that you must have the right size or it won't work. By the time you have them all in metric and SAE you might as well carry the whole kit.

At least that's my view on socket adaptors for multitools.

I will grant you that the center section seems a bit heavier than it need be. :-\

Perhaps with some refinement it could have been made slimmer?

You could just carry a 1/4" bit adapter socket, then you'd have a much beefier ratcheting screwdriver than the one that comes with the Swisstool (not knocking that tool, i absolutely love it!).  It seems like a good idea, have they ever made any or was it just an idea?

I dunno. :-\  I've never seen one. And there's been no activity on their website for quite a spell. :(

It's not made by Leatherman though! If indeed it was ever made before.

Looks like a bit of a beast to me. A good idea though, like Bob says, if they could have made it a bit thinner / smaller - it could've been a contender!
I used to come here a lot.

Just because it wasn't made by Leatherman doesn't mean it isn't cool... I know I want one!  :D

I wish there was a side-view of this thing....because it doesn't seem like it should work.....unless.....

It must be there is a plate in the center, unseen, that drops down in between the Super Tool's handles like the Universal Tool Adapter does. Otherwise the Adapta Tool would simply pop off when you started ratcheting. (if that makes sense?)

I think you must be right Bob. In fact my first thought was "why didn't they make it like the UTA"?

@Def: I pointed out that it wasn't a LM made thingummy, because a couple of the posts looked like people thought it was - if you see what I mean

Something like that Bob. As you pointed out, there must be something to pinch between the handles. I wondered if the pin you can see in the pics was some kind of bar that it gripped internally at first, but the very first picture suggests that the whole contraption sits higher than that.

In fact the more I think about it, the more I think that must be the case, else the whole thing would twist off during use. I wonder if the box shape is for extra strength? It doesn't seem to do much to justify being so elaborate.

I've tried contacting them, but I'm not sure if their form worked - let's see!

I noticed this on their site too:

I like the way the above is billed as a "Great gift for Dad" but there's a minimum order of 12! Who has 12 dads?  ???

:o That Adapta Tool seems to have been a good idea but just needed some refinement and ALP is right the Gator Grip socket would be very handy with that 1 :tu:

If you can settle for 1/4" sockets, and your MT has a 1/4" bit driver,
the adapter for those is a standard cheap hardware-store item.

That would work well with http://www.toolsforless.com/product/32901/Endeavor_ETC-120_Gator_Grip_3_4_Universal_Socket_6_Pack

walmart carries those adapters for like 10 bucks. I like the endeavor tool a lot.

That's why you just get a powerlock if you want to use sockets. Of course I think it's just easier to carry a visegrip(although tey can be good at mangling bolts if you aren't careful).
