Seems a bit OTT when you can do it with pliers in about 30 seconds.

and look at the price of 1 of those :ahhh 165 US :o just to change a spring  for that much it should take apart and reassemble the whole SAK while you're at work :D

I have seen these sets go for around $50 many times. Not really sure they are worth the price though.

Ira Woods has a nice spring replacement kit for US$41, I was thinking of getting it may times, but the logistics of getting it to Canada (they only ship in the US) is stopping me.

I do have a CampFlame though ;)

You can do the job pretty well with pliers (I used a P4) but the kit does make it easier and it does see a fair amount of use.  I can't remember exactly what I paid but I think it was around £30 off ebay.

Check this out...anyone got one????

http://www.swiss-knife.com/asp/detail.asp?lan=EN&code=VIC.9.6100.1&shop=SK
I have one for professional use since I change dozens of springs on used SAKs but I can't imagine why anyone would pay money for one for home use on the occasional SAK. The springs are very easy to change with a pair of pliers.

That's what I was about to suggest actually Tim. If you have loads to do, and time is money and all that - it's surely like any machine!
I used to come here a lot.

just got one. not really necessary for the private collector, but so full of old-european charm.
you know, that nice little wood box with all the partitions and tidbits.
Unfortunately the handtools are missing.
but sourcing them is a worthwhile endeavour. can anyone help ?

Looks like I opened a big can of worms there..... but no constructive input on the tool itself.

BTW, the kit includes a lot of interesting  "nowhere to be found" old model springs.

even black single leaf ones. I had a lot of fun sorting them all out. They look soo much alike.

The springs alone made it worth my while.

I should have said, those black springs are awesome.  I recently got a SAK with one and it was my first.  Nice to know if you also have a SAK with black spring you now have the kit to replace if need be.

I find organizing kits like this relaxing.  Glad you found this kit.   I do hope you also find the missing parts.  Opening an old thread is a great way to prompt someone who might have them or can locate them for you.  Good luck.

I've only seen the tools IN the kit. Nice find on the black single leaf spring. Any doubles in there?

Pardon my french, but do you mean "double black springs" or "spare single leaf springs" ?
in the kit were remaining exactly three single leaf black springs.

the rest are classical double leaf, different sizes - i'll post a pic ASAP
