Buck Vantage Pro
on: March 24, 2009, 12:18:55 AM
Nice to see that Buck is making a knife that is price comparable to walmarts spyderco native. It's got G10 handles, S30V steel and a nice deep pocket clip. MSRP is 75 bucks but we know it can be hand for less.  ;)

Here are some pics from someone's Photobucket account. All I can say is  :gimme: :mail:

That is sweet, the pocket clip is perfect AND an S30v blade!

Considering the fact that Buck was a traditional knife maker, they have come a LONG way!

I have had my eyes on it for a while, an S30V blade (heat treated by Paul Bos) and totally made in america (not that the Golden Native don't count). It's nice to see american companies fighting the price point with foreign manufacturers. I am not as much of an american knife supported as some folks on here but there can be alot said for import as well. With the economy like it is and alot of companies stuggling there is alot of folks trying to buy US made stuff to keep the money in our pockets rather than in overseas companies. Buck has alot of history under it's belt and have alot to offer to folks if they want to check them out. Granted they have had alot of their cheaper models made overseas to help with the price point, but it really is nice to see an honest to god US product with a fantastic price point to match!  :tu:

Look at the first pic...does this knife have a flipper?

Looks really nice, although I'm spoiled on the wave on my Spyderco...

That looks real good.  :)  I am yet to handle a Buck, but if that was going for a good price over here I'd certainly be tempted by it.

+1 :tu: I'd like it better if it were only a tad smaller (i.e. these characteristics in the size of the Vantage Small), but the specs/price ratio on this folder is just great.

It does in fact have a flipper, works so well some folks have commented that it works like it's assisted. My only complaint without seeing it, is it has been said it has nylon washers. I am a sucker for bronze washers and love the smooth action of knives that are made super smooth and use those types of washers. I do have some stuff in nylon but I feel it does not perform quite as well. Someone could always go to knifekits.com and get some to swap out for them, might need to tweak them some to get them in though. I think it's sad that the X-Tracts that are made overseas have bronze in them but my Buck Sirus with 154CM steel has nylon.  ::) I just hope the rumors are wrong, I really want it to be bronze in them there hills.

Thanks for pointing this knife out!  Looks like a great design.

A Buck 110 (all time classic knife design) was my very first lockback many years ago, so I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Buck.

But, I haven't been paying much attention to Buck lately because most of Buck's newer designs haven't had much appeal for me.  Assisted openers with anodized aluminum or stainless steel handles just aren't my cup of tea.

But, I must say this Vantage looks like a beautiful design.  Love the design of the pocket clip.  Love the flipper.  Love the lack of thumb studs.

I've been looking for a smaller, lighter knife for urban EDC.

Buck offers a smaller version of this knife with 2 5/8" 420HC blade, FRN scales, at 3 3/4" length overall and 2.3 ounces.

Buck's 420HC is plenty good enough for me.

Best of all - Knifecenter has this model for only $19.95!

Talk about bang for the buck...

I don't want to get into details about how I snagged it (long story for someone with no cash), but I figured you folks interested in the Vantage would like to see a quick clip I did of the knife (opening/closing). Buck says on a forum that this knife is selling WAY better than they anticipated and they are having a hard time keeping up. This thing is on fire I tell ya!! I will let you know what I think after I play with it for a week.  ;)
