I'm shoulder to shoulder with Flash on this one.  I find even the adverts so irritating I have to switch over.  :viking:

Well was toying with idea of not watching the new series altogether, but it's the only show of that type on at the moment, since Survivorman finished :-\

And Ray hasn't made a new series for at least 8 months :ahhh

Yeah but after, what 4 series, it's getting a bit too annoying imo :-\

I can't stand the bogus little smurf. We have a friend who's an industry insider who says he does absolutely none of the research, testing or tough bits you see on the show. He just ponces in at the last minute to film a few bits of him pretending to be butch. And while he minces around showing you gratuitous mouthfuls on bugs, he's busy flogging his latest clothing range/book/DVD ad nauseum.

I think I've probably made my feelings known on this subject now! ::)

I've never seen the guy, don't watch much TV.  Reading all this vitriol I'm almost tempted to watch some of his stuff just to see what I'm missing :D

I have watched the show a few times. Personally, I think the things he does isn't exactly what I would call recommended survival options. The way I see it, my survival will depend on me staying as healthy as possible and not risking illness or broken limbs. So eating bear poop, rock climbing or sliding down waterfalls would not be very good options. The word "conservative" comes to mind when it comes to survival. Les Shroud probably has better, usable information for the average guy. Also, he (Bear) was busted a while back for staying in hotels while leading viewers to believe he was actually living in the wilderness "surviving", so it really shot his credibility.

Ray Mears and Les are educational , Bear is an entertainer . He does a lot of downright dangerous /irresponsable stuff .

I maybe in the minority, but I really like Bear and the show. I know that's more of a entertainment show than a how to survive show. I still think you have to admire him for some of the things he as done in his life. Youngest Britain at the time to climb Everest,  served in the United Kingdom Special Forces, circumnavigate the UK on a jet ski, crossing of the north Atlantic Ocean, in an inflatable boat, and flying a para glider over Everest. I wished I could do some of those things. Also I have read on numerous websites that he raises lots of money for charities around the world. I don't care if he stays in a hotel room at night. It's a TV show.

You're right credit where it's due.  However it should be pointed out that he was in the Territorial Army (somewhat like the National Guard) and not the regular Army.  A distinction that has made the SAS etc very annoyed by his claims.  Not a group of people I'd want to hold a grudge against me.  :-\

He was in the "Reserves".  He was a part time reservist at that.

Not to put them down....but he never made an action "in anger" ie war and left after f@@king up a parachute jump and they got rid of him.

I work with a few people who know people (if you get my drift ;)) who are after "Bear" for his fraudulent claims and making them look like idiots with the stunts he pulls.

This man is about as "Special forces" as a weekend warrior.

I have recently trained some UN Soldiers going off to Cyprus in Riot Suppression.  One of them was a medic attached to 21 Reg....does that mean I have trained Special Forces???

Of course not and I would NEVER suggest that to be the case..........however, some would. :-X
