What do you have on order?
on: September 12, 2006, 08:35:06 PM
I am waiting on another assisted opener, SOG Trident, plain edge.  It's been awhile since I bought anything new.  I'll post pictures and a mini review.  Hopefully I will it have by the weekend.

I'm waiting on a Buck X-Tract (on backorder)

I am also waiting for a few others from different places, and the Micras I had ordered just arrived.

I now have a Crunch added to the rest of the list.... the good news is that if I keep us broke enough, my wife won't be able to afford to divirce me over it...

It's been a really weak week for me... I have ordered quite a few things including a LM Surge and Crunch, a Sebertech M3 and I already got some micras and a LM Juice Kf4.  It's getting harder and harder to keep hiding the new ones from my wife, especially when they are coming in green red and solar yellow!
If I suddenly disappear, you all know why.  Please call 911...

Weak as in unable to resist buying?  Or weak as in you haven't bought as much as you normally do?  If it's the second one, I'd hate to see the bill for a strong week!   :P

Well I'll say this much- judging by the number of new toys I've been getting lately, I am not entirely certain that this website was one of my better ideas!  >:D

Right now I have a Peak LED Solutions Pacific flashlight on the way, with 1AA, 1AAA, and CR2 bodies as accessory.

OH!  I also have a very nice package coming from our very own mcniac.  It contains a Victorinox Scientist, and some very well made leather sheaths.  One is a wet-molded belt pouch for a Victorinox OHT, and the other is a neck sheath for a Soldier.  I can't wait to see those pretties.

You are going to love the OHT sheath.  Esteban's work is really amazing, and he uses really high quality leather too.  Soon I won't be able to afford him anymore!

Ugh... now that the Buck X-tract is on the way, I'm waiting on 6 new tools to arrive...  The credit card company is going to love me this month.

Here's what I'm waiting on...

Buck X-tract
2 Leatherman Micra's  (Thanks Tim!)
Meyerco Paradox
Stanley Automatic Multi-tool
Carolina X-tool  (made in china.  Looks like one of those Aitor tools... was only $4 and I couldn't resist... hehe)

I am trying REAL hard not to order anything else right now....

So far it's working... but barely!  I doubt I will be able to contain myself once the current shipments arrive!

:o  I'm nearly speechless Esteban......  You have a gift with the leatherwork my friend.  ...and thank you VERY MUCH for the "extra".  ;)

Def, you are absolutely right.  I've seen the pics on SOSAK online, but pictures don't do these justice!!

I know what you mean.  I was trying to accurately show the braiding in the article I wrote for SOSAKOnline, but there's only so much you can see in pictures.  Add to that the fact that Esteban cuts each strand of leather by hand and then braids them together...

Simply amazing work amigo!

Let me get this straight.  He cuts each strip lengthwise out of a sheet of leather?  DOH!  How the hell?

Esteban, the brown one really is my favorite.  I like how it shows the stress/contours of the leather much better.  It compliments my shoes, belt and camo ARMEE SAK!  ;)  I'll wear the black one on "dressier" occasions.  ;D

I would like to see the process.  I can't imagine how you get this thick, stiff leather to cooperate...

Esteban has submitted some articles on braiding in the past.  They are featured on SOSAKOnline...

http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=90&Itemid=35

http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=49&Itemid=35

Unfortunately to do them you need 16 fingers on each hand, and those fingers have to be at least seven inches long!

hey guys is not that hard to do, normally i use a sharp knife and a piece of plastic pipe to cut the leather, the pipe has a straigth cut in the middle and acts as a guide to help cut em straight, i have seen some old braiders here that cut em freehand and always perfect, exactly the size they want.
also after you cut the leather strands you must do another process that is called "devirar" in spanish wich means cut the corners of the strans to make it have an hexagonal section, this permits to braid em properly
another importan thing when braiding is the humidity of the leather, i normally solve this by adding some glicerine soap

the leather is not that stiff before the wet molding and waxing proccess

i hope you enjoy em

just a tip i forgot to tell you, please use some snoseal (or some other trnasparent wax) on the leather lanyads from time to time, but don't over do it.

Esteban

Cool.  I'll try to remember to wax them.

I can't imagine what it would take to damage one of these sheaths.  Nothing better to put a bomb-proof SAK in than a sheath that just might outlast it!

3 NEW flashlights;

Surefire 9P -used with P90 and P91 bulbs

Pentagon L2

Pentagon X3

Pentagon Lights homepage

I think Pentagon lights are a quality light for the money ( less expensive than Surfire ) .
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

I would go for the trade myself.  I edc a Charge Ti.  Reasons being, are I like the scissors over 2 bit drivers as you only use one at a time and i thought maybe the crimper would weaken the needle nose
