Oddities for MultiMat
on: March 06, 2009, 03:02:10 PM
Now that Mat has a SportRatchet, he thinks he's got all the oddities he needs... so let's royally screw him over by helping to assemble a new list for him!  :D

In another thread we suggested the Gerber Recoil:

And the Switch Plier:

And the more I think about it, he also needs a Coleman Pro-Lock:

And a Frog Tool couldn't hurt:

Heck, everyone should have a Frog Tool!  :D

So, what other tool oddities does our friend down under desperately need that he may not yet know about?  :D  Come on guys, he needs our help, we can't leave him hanging!

Oh, and don't forget the pokey sticks!

:pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok:

NO NO NO STOP.I have got all the oddballs I know about , please keep me ignorant . I do like the look of Dave's Gerber & I have looked at the Flick/Recoil , but having owned a Suspension I just can not make the jump into the Gerber pond.
Please show mercy I am hopping to get the Ti & hopefully a Xti, when funds become avaliable & if I can work out a trade, TTi for Xti. I would like to get A Swisschamp, silver Farmer & Soldier. I have bought quite a bit lately , must resist Bear&Son,more SOG's,Schrade,Kershaw Leek...... :ahhh

The Suspension isn't an accurate representation of Gerber tools- you really need to try out one of the better ones.  Really, you do, all kidding aside.  Otherwise you are missing out on something really good.

As for being cruel, yeah, that would be me!  :D

Gerber used to make good stuff. Just look for a "U.S.A." on it, if you see that its good quality.

I guess maybe the suspension wouldn't be an accurate representation however I'm not all that happy with my Legend 700 either.  The spring is horrible and after cutting or even just squeezing the pliers together the pliers do not spring back properly and just kind of move half way open or less.  After I play with it a bit then it eventually corrects itself and re-opens.  Maybe there's crud inside it not sure.  It was brand new though when I got it a few weeks ago.  I guess I've been cutting with the sog pliers too long but don't really find the carbide cutters work all that hot.  The outside opening blade is a bit rough and smooth when open it up.
It just all adds up to a very uninspiring tool that I have yet to slide onto my belt and carry around.

It's still somewhat better than the Suspension was... but you should really give the MP400 or 600 a go.  The Recoil is also nice, as is the Flik and the Diesel.  The artifact is nice, and I have heard good things about the Freehand although I haven't gotten my hands on one yet.

The Freehand is basically just an oversized Flik, so if you like one, chances are you'll like the other!

I think Def is absolutely right Mat, the "novelty" tools like the recoil are worth seeing, but the MP600 / MP400 range are good tools and quite capable. The suspension isn't really typical IMO.
I used to come here a lot.

That's the Wenger Watchmaker, correct? Did Vic make a lot of specialized SAKs like this?

No,it's not,but it is a Wenger and does have as it's core the Bergeon bits and driver that can be found on the Minathor.Victorinox never got into the very narrow niche SAKs like Wenger, for example the Bernina sewing SAK,the sight adjustment SAK for SIG rifles, and the "toilet paper holder" SAK.....and those itsy bitsy replacement rolls of TP are near impossible to find :D

How about a Gerber Multi-Lite?

(Image removed from quote.)

Years ago when I got my first multitool ( PST ) a guy at work liked it but said he didn't need pliers . This was before the internet was popular and none of us had it so most of our knowledge about knives and tools came out of magazines . There was an advert by H e i n n i e  H a y n e s in Gunmart that had lots of knives and tools and my mate like the Gerber Multi-lite . His model didn't have a corkscrew and i thought it was funny when he broke the awl trying to get the cork out of a bottle .I think he paid about £40 at the time .It had the same build quality as the 600 series .Btw I also broke the awl on my Gerber 600 scout .

Got a new Gerber Recoil for $30us ,thanks for that Bob & Def  :twak: :twak: :D :D
Those Gerber multi-lite's are a bit thin on the ground.
Tried to snag a bargain on a PocketGrip , went for more than I was prepared to pay (a lot more).

Had a go at this (would not have kept it if I had won it)
Crazy SAK display.
