Finally found out what's wrong with my foot!

My family doctor suspected that I had the same condition late last year and sent me to a podiatrist. With medication and a set of inserts for my feet the condition improved.  The podiatrist thought it was more of a case of  stretching the muscles in the arch of the foot. Any case no more meds, just the supports in the shoes and no more problems for 3 months

It was a bugger though getting my ticklish feet harpooned

Just ibuproffen for when it get's really bad, the rest of the time I just gut through it

Have you tried Diclofenac?  Its similar to ibuprofen but more effective, and you can now get it over the counter.  Its tough on the stomach though so you might want to look into some stomach protection (like ranitidine - also available over the counter) if you take it alot.

Doesn't solve the original problem, but could give you some relief when the pain is at its worst.

It depends really on the person, you can get things like heartburn or indigestion.  Ibuprofen and diclofenac are from the same class of drug, so you should be ok if you don't have any trouble with ibuprofen.  Something like gaviscon should be enough if you only use the diclofenac now and again.  Give your GP a shout if you feel you'll use it frequently and he/she could prescribe you some stronger anti-acid medications like a PPI - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_pump_inhibitor

I recently rogered my ankle so I have some idea of how restrictive these foot problems can be.  Hope you get it sorted mate.

NSAIDs (the drug group in question) can cause serious stomach problems but as rp mentioned, it depends in the person and also the condition of your stomach as is. At the worst, they can cause bleeding ulcers and so should not be taken with any pre-existing condition of that ilk. I find it's important to avoid taking them on an empty stomach and that seems to spare me the indigestion. You can dose 400mg every 4 hours. As for other possibles, if you are not sensitive to codeine then co-codamol is pretty effective for pain (I have some spare if you need them  )

I'm of the opinion that all wannabe car drivers should be forced to ride around on a  bike for 6 months before being granted a provisional. They need to see the road from a 2 wheeled perspective before being allowed on it.

You bike peeps aren't all great either.    Some bikers need to see what it's like from a car owners POV too.
