Vic 91mm questions
on: May 01, 2009, 11:40:54 PM
Being a SOSAK member I should know these, but....

When did the scissor screw change to a rivet ?
When did the thinner main blade come in ?
On the Swiss Champ when did the magnifier change to all plastic ?

Thank you   :D

the transluscent magnifier glass and the thinner blade came in 2005, the magnifier changed in all models and so the blade thickness, the scissors changed the screw in 1991.

I have heard of it but I don't think it is common at all.

My experience with Victorinox back spring failure is it is more common on the smaller 58mm sized knives than any other. The larger knives rarely have it but if so it is usually with an older model or an abused one. Most problems I see on 91mm knives is bent tools, broken scissors, broken knife blade tips and general corrosion causing stiff or hard to open tools.

58mm seen plenty of broken springs (on old abused knives), 74mm several, 84mm and 91mm about five in total with two of those being scissor backsprings on the old knives that had the long nailfile on the back.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

The first questions (certainly not the backspring one) relate to the Swiss Champ Neil traded to me. I was very chuffed to see the thicker blade it's my first, I was all "Ooooo"  :D
