My heart is warmed by the Cybertool contingent. That bit driver on the Cybertool is amazing. Talk about a long reach and some very nice bits.

I see "Other" is leading ... makes me think there's something important missing from the list. I suspect adding the Soldier in with the OHT/Farmer and adding "fixed blade" might correct that.

Most of us seem to choose to EDC a different knife often, or several knives at once, which made me think "what if we actually had to pick a knife instead of living in a SAK orgy?" Er, probably a better way to word that, but it conveys the point. Just wondering if anyone is confident enough in one knife that they would actually pick it above everything else for life to the exclusion of all others. Oh no, sounds like marriage!  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I've EDCed a Tinker for 20+ years and believed that Vic would never make anything that would surpass a Tinker.

For the last year or so I've been changing up my EDC between a Tinker and an OHT.

OHT matches each Tinker function (plus a wooodsaw), but OHT takes the basic Tinker functions to a higher level:

-Locking screwdriver/prybar is TOUGH - in an emergency it should handle some serious prying.

-Locking OH-opening blade is way more capable than Tinker's mainblade for serious cutting.

-Woodsaw is very capable for its size, although rarely used in my daily urban existence.  Maybe worth the extra layer of thickness and slightly greater weight because it could come in very handy in an emergency.

If forced to choose only one EDC SAK for the rest of my life, then I'd pick OHT over Tinker.

Hi, I'm new here.  I'd have to vote for an OHT/Farmer/Soldier as my one and only.   Love the strength and size of the Alox line.

I'd go with the Huntsman or a Fieldmaster, which by the way is closer to a Huntsman than a Climber. DOH!

Welcome Brutus :)

I would carry a Champ out of that lot but I really don't need a couple of it's tools, especially the fish scaler  ::)
So for me it would be a slighty modded\slimmed down version like the Troubleshooter or similar.

He's right though... if you could have only one tool aside from a blade, would it not be a SAW?!

Well I'm not Ben, so I must be a heathen. :>

Woodsaw is worth the extra layer and weight for a SAK to be carried in the great outdoors.  (Fire starting, cutting a walking staff, emergency shelter building, etc.)

Woodsaw isn't worth the extra layer and weight for a SAK used for urban EDC.  How often do you actually find a use for that woodsaw around town?

If Vic would make a OHT model minus the woodsaw layer it'd be close to perfect for urban EDC.  Then, if Vic would offer that model with a pocket clip, it'd be perfect.

Belt and suspenders man, heh?

Micky d, I was just examining my OH-GAK and it looks like it'd work ok without the locking liner for the mainblade.

Has anyone tried removing half the locking liner to make it UK legal?

Looks like you could leave the other half of the liner that locks the screwdriver/prybar/bottleopener.

It's a nice idea but it would still leave the blade to long.  We have a maximum of a 3" cutting edge to be reason free EDC.

So put the tip in vise and snap it off.

If you do it right you should wind up with sort of a Wharncliffe blade on your OHT.

You'd have a OHT except with a shorter, stubbier, one-hand-opening, non-locking blade - but it'd still have all the other good features of the OHT.

Mike knows more on this than I do, but I am sure someone did this and the lack of spring tension meant it was actually quite dangerous.

the wood saw on SAKs works really good on cutting/punching holes in dry-wall, good for urban stuff!

Yep, there just wasn't enough spring tension there to make it work :-\

You may be right - kinda hard to get a feel for the spring tension while holding that stiff liner back out of the way.

Trying it again.  Yeah, maybe there isn't all that much spring tension holding the blade open.  Although, I've owned old slipjoint knives with even less spring tension that were still usable.

Oh well, another great idea all shot to hell.  ;>
