:tu:  I really should get a drop in to get more run time off the 2 CR123s it takes.

Do It!!!!!

This G3 has a Low Voltage 5 speed drop-in and I run it on 2aa Eneloops for a long while!

I have a G2 in my B.O.B. with a Malkoff extra long run time Drop-In for the 123s

There are so many great ones that it is fun to experiment and I suggest the Nailbender dop-in if just starting out.
And if not just starting out too!
He makes great units and they are reasonably priced too.

www.customlites.com

The Malkoffs are also really reasonable for what you are getting so don't be scared of them either!

Amici,
Today's light we have the Nitecore TIP, but this one is manufactured out of stainless steel. Not that the original ones which were made out of Aluminum had any real issues, but these are definitely built to a much higher standard, and you can feel this when in hand. I have dropped this Black and Silver SS models numerous times from Asphalt to concrete, and hardly a ding or scratch, not as if that would be bad. In fact, such battle damage adds, "character" to the light as a whole I believe.

There are only a few things I do not like about the TIP series, and they are:

1-The two piece construction, with the use of a visible rubber gasket. This sorta reminds me of an engine block and the head gasket, which in some of the old Cadillac engines ( which were made out of aluminum with poorly tapped bolts, would fail). My rubber gasket on the 1st generation TIP started to fail, and began to separate from the two components. I used Gorilla glue to repair it, when for the amount paid, plus the hype, I should not have needed too.. (hence my 1990's Cadillac engine analogy).

2-It utilizes an automatic turn off, just  as soon as you turn it on.. I find this annoying.. It will turn off, right in the middle of your current task. This should be an option, that can be switched on and off.

3-The USB port dust cover, is a pain to take off, especially in a pinch. But it is workable.. You can utilize the light switch with the cover on with the older Aluminum models, not so with the SS versions.

4-Nitecore customer Service... Simply it absolutely sucks... pardon my language, but I need to call a spade a spade. For example, one of my original aluminum TIP lights, dropped and lost a screw. I sent their CS an email informing them of the issue, and simply requested a replacement screw, that's all. They responded that since I didn't buy the TIP directly from them, but from an online vendor, (why should that matter?) that they would not honor any warranty, so would not send a screw out.

BUT IF I went ahead and purchased another light from them directly, then they would gladly send a replacement screw along with the order. That's just nuts..

So in a nutshell, (no pun intended), If you haven't purchased one yet, but are planning too, definitely go with the Stainless Steel versions, just be aware of the negatives to go along with the positives.

Cheers,
Serge

:tu:  Thank you.  I have to check these out again.  When I got the light I was really psyched to do it but that excitement slowed.  I was going thru my 123 cells to check them and realized I had more than enough to put into this light for fun.  Then the gear got going again.   Its a cool light albeit large for today standards.

Again much appreciate the info.

Today's light, is an Eagtac D25C mini, which is also a twisty, my preferred option.

Cheers,
Serge

The days are getting longer, so my light is getting smaller. ;)  Not carried the tiny Thrunite Ti3 NW in ages.

The TIP in copper today.
I must have a newer version because you can turn off the 30-seconds off function. It is meant as an option to the lockout. It left on low setting, and it gets activated in pocket, it shuts off in 30 secs.
The TINI has the same feature and, in addition, it has a 2 second delay at turn-on. Never had the TINI turn itself on.
Got em both in copper. Very nice quality (at least the ones I have).

For me, the Ti3 is one of the most under rated lights.Have had it for several years with no problems. Love the sub-lumen low on it.

I've been a huge fan of the TIP since I got mine.  Punches out the lumens without being too huge.

Came home from the beach today to find some awesome goodies in my mailbox, a pair of Ultratac A-7's

Holy cow these things are small and powerful. 180 lumens for 30min run time on normal AAA battery, 4 hours on 50 lumens. Also I LOVE LOVE the difuser it came with. Makes it so much more functional.

here it is as part of my full weekend carry.

Cheers,
H.G.

I have been carrying this Armytec Elf since getting it a few weeks ago and in Montana I carried it in pocket or on head the whole time.
The Cabin I was working on was so dark that I could not really see anything without a light!
All of the Wall Plates were Black and the walls were all stained dark too.

This one is turning ot to be indispensable too.
10 days and never needing a recharge of nice Warm tinted light.
Also pretty comfy for the size, the head band is great.

The Kids there vacationing got a kick out of my wearing the light too with one of the clients kids telling the other visiting kids " Oh thats just Uncle Ed,he always does that"!

And Yes I do! :hatsoff: :dunno:
