What's Manafont?  BTW, asked about your Buck Bantam in the folder thread.  I just picked up a Paperstone Vantage, not bad...

After spending the last few weeks carrying my iTP A2 in Stainless (a light I'm extremely happy with) I thought I'd try my new Gerber Infinity for a little while.  For some reason I had it in my head that the Infinity would be a bigger light than it is, so finding out that it's very nearly as small as my iTP A2 was a pleasant surprise.  :)

Humm, perhaps.  problem is that I know so very little about lights compared to MTs and SAKs.  I'll maybe string some thought together after carrying it for a while.

Hi all,

new member here, and right now CPF has been down for over a week, so I'm glad I found another forum to talk flashlights in.  :D

My EDC light is a Zebralight SC50w+ which I love dearly; easily my favorite pocketable light, and my second favorite light overall after my Jetbeam Jet-3 Pro ST.

I've been looking at the 1xAA Zebralighs and dearly want one.  Perhaps next time I've got a bit of spare cash. ::)

Anyway I've been carrying my Stainless iTP A2 on my keys for weeks now along with SA2 Eluma in my bag.  I've not yet felt under lit. :D

My EDC flashlight is a Surefire E1L Outdoorsman (dual output) with F04 Beamshaper. In addition, I carry a Maratac AAA on my keychain.

Brand spankin' new Inova T1.  Newest version with the Cree XP-E emitter.  I'm still unconvinced of the efficacy of the 2xCR123a format, but I'll give it at least a little time.

This light was a pain in the ass to photograph.

I was hesitant to buy a ZL at first, not so much because of the complaints about their QC I'd read over at CPF, but more because I thought the UI was overly complex.  But I wanted a new pocket light, and my old NiteCore EZAAw wasn't cutting it for me anymore; not a low enough low or high enough high, but I also wanted something neutral tint as well; the tint of my little NiteCore was/is beautiful, I'm pretty sure it's a 5B since it's a little warmer, despite the fact it was advertised as having a 5B.  Anyway, I couldn't find anything else in a reasonably pocketable size with a 5A/B emitter and Zebralight was the only one that had a nice clip that I could actually get.  D10's were long gone by then (still sorry I missed the boat on one of those).

Once I got the ZL though, I had it down in less than a day, and now it's easily my favorite UI of all the lights I have.  I'm very fond of the IBS UI on the Jetbeams though too, but the instant access to either low or high on the ZL is what really makes it great.  I put a circle of DC-fix on the lens of mine and while it doesn't make the beam a pure flood, it does spread out the hotspot nicely and makes an already floody light pretty much perfect for 98% of the EDC tasks I have from day to day.  I've had it for about 4 mos. now, and I don't see anything as displacing it right now as my primary EDC.  I've got a nice Quark AA with an R4/5A emitter head that I bought piecemeal from 4Sevens, and it's a nice light, but the pre-flash issue with it is annoying, kind of ruins the whole point of having a 'moonlight' mode.  So I use it as a secondary EDC; I keep it on max with a 14500 in it as a pocket rocket for when I need more throw than the ZL gives me.

NutSAK, thanks. :D  (I go by B0wz3r over at CPF btw.)

Interesting that you put a film on your ZL, I'd understood that they were pretty floody already so I'm guessing you must have been trying to go for a total flood. :)

Oh and welcome to the forum, as Terry says we're more than happy to have some torch talk here as well.

Well, now that its not so dark out after work these days, I've put my "serious" lights aside again and I'm favoring the ones that offer lighter carry.  Today it's the 4Sevens Q-MiNi NW running on 14500.

I guess it's one more flashlight season down and another knife/tool season to go!

You know, the funny thing is, it doesn't make it a total flood light.  What it does is spread the hotspot out more and make the boundaries of it more diffuse so there's a more gradual transition from the hotspot into the spill zone.  I really like it, because my one qualm with the Zebralights I have is they all have a relatively small hotspot compared to the size of the spill beam, so the DC-fix really drops my only real complaint about the light.  Of course, now it doesn't throw much at all, so I suppose I could complain about that, but flood is best for 95% of all the things I use my EDC light for.

Another nice thing about the ZL's is their tints are very consistent; every w model I've got is very similar in their tints, which I prefer.  My favorite tint is the 5A/B bin, about 4500K, and I'm become aware that ZL puts a lot of effort into getting emitters that are just the tint they want.  I found that out from an email from Lillian Xu from them a few months ago when I was inquiring about new models they now have in production.  She indicated that the sole holdup at the time was that they wanted to make sure they got the tint they wanted for the emitters before they went into production.  In comparison, while I cut my flashaholic teeth on Quarks, and they are still great values for the money, I don't really buy them much anymore because their tints are so bloody inconsistent, varying from plain vanilla white to a ghastly and vile green in some of their neutral models.

For me, it's all about tint and beam profile; I'm willing to sacrifice a few lumens for it, and so far ZL hasn't let me down.

(Image removed from quote.)

I've oft thought of buying an A2, particularly a stainless one like that... but I honestly have no real need for it given the nearly dozen other lights I already have...  it is a nice looking light though, and the clip is definitely a bonus... something I wish my EZAAw and my Q-mini nw had...  :P

Yeah the clip was certainly one of the deciding factors when I want for the A2.  When at home it just sits on my keys ready to be used if needed but that's not very often, at work however I use it regularly so I keep it clipped to a pocket.  Nice to have the flexibility. :)

The L1 occupies a very soft spot in my heart  , I've owned several , the take a pounding , and I love the switching . Gave one to a partner back in 06 , that dude is VERY hard on his kit - still going strong . The Gen 1 L1 is the best "power failure " light I've ever carried .

I have both the ITP A1 and A2 and have been regularly carrying the A1 for some time now.  It's an incredible light and very useful.  I don't know how I ever got along without it  :D
