Similar in appearance to Byrd Raven, but with a stronger blade and lock than Raven.  Tenacious doesn't look awkward and ungainly like a lot of the Spyderco models.  (I know Spyderco makes great knives, but I'm put off a lot of them just by their looks.)

I wasn't really aware of the Storm - Kershaw has so many similar looking models nowdays that it's hard for me to keep track.  Reasonable prices, and the small one looks to have good potential for EDC.

.

I can definately relate on the look thing. When I first saw a spyderco knife in one of those "show your knife" thread, I thought they were the ugliest thing in the world. But Then I bought one and start to love the hump back look. Although there are still several models that's way out there even for me.

Yeah kershaw has quite a few similar low priced models, only reason I knew storm is walmart used to carry them and I had a storm II, just sold it thou, too heavy for me.

That "look" could be considered a disadvantage of the Spyderco lineup of knives for EDC.

Something about the typical "Spyderco look" blade - that big hole, pronounced humpback, and pointy tip - seems to frighten non-knife people more than blades of the same length from other manufacturers.

I first noticed the "Spyderco effect" a few years back while EDCing an Endura and then a Delica.  Even the Delica sometimes got startled or hostile looks from non-knife people.  I got a few comments from people about how my knife was "dangerous" or "scary" looking.

But, those same people had never reacted badly to the Gerber knife I EDCed previously, even though its blade was slightly longer than the Delica.  (The Gerber had a conventional drop point blade with thumbstuds, instead of the hole and humpback shape.)

The Spyderco effect could be inpart to its portrayal in the movies as "tactical" or "fighting" knives.  I recall seeing Spyderco blades in a couple of movies and much like the use of balisongs and autoknives ( switchblades ) in movies these knives became labelled as dangerous weapons used by thugs and punks.  Just my thoughts.

You could be right - I've noticed bad guys using Spyderco knives in various movies for the last 20 years or so.

Even when not actively threatening or cutting up a victim, the bad guys will often use a Spyderco for various chores.

Probably because movie prop managers decided that Spyderco knives have a more "wicked" look than other knives, even when used for mundane purposes.

Clever product placement - I doubt it hurts their sales  ;)
