The great "where did your sig-line come from?"-thread
on: February 12, 2014, 08:06:11 PM
So.. We have a "where did your avatar come from" thread, we have a "where did your screenname come from" thread.. Now, I present to you:

Where did your signature line come from? I mean, some are pretty obvious, but some are less obvious :P

Mine is a line I found somewhere on the internet, some time, and I liked it, so I thought I'd paste it here. Undeniably true, as well :)

So, how about yours?

PS. With signature-line, I mean the text that appears at the bottom of every message you post....

Mine came from a Alan Dean Foster novel. Can remember what the book was about or if it was any good, but the line has always stuck with me :tu:

Esse Quam Videri  "To be, rather than to seem (to be)"

I love this Phrase and I also dig the Machiavelli reverse of it (to seem rather than to be).  It goes along with my Motto in life which is "Don't talk about IT, BE about IT".  I'm sure my kids are tired of hearing me say this but we are inundated with TALK and growing up I heard my mother always say, "Talk is Cheap!".  You are what you do in my book and so many say they are this and that yet show the contrary in their actions.

Mine's nothing insightful or interesting.  Just a play on my name.

"Even if it is only the handful of people I meet on the street, or in my home, I can still protect them with this one sword." Rurouni Kenshin, season 1 episode 3

The fingerprints quote is still in evolution but it is from a long term writing project. The original version, "so I became a god and left my fingerprints upon the sky" was tourettes-like outburst at the conclusion of a video game.

And the tool thing, thats kind of how I view humans.
"Even if it is only the handful of people I meet on the street, or in my home, I can still protect them with this one sword" Kenshin Himura

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

"I love democracy" Sheev Palpatine, upon his election to Chancellor.

Mine isn't exactly inspirational, but I find it amusing. Anyone who watches the British Top Gear knows that half the stuff that comes out of Clarkson's mouth is funny enough to remember.

Anybody who likes gadget must have heard of countycomm, unfortunately they refuse to have anything to do with foreigners even if you have an US shipping address (blocked non-us paypal). This guy resells some of their stuff with minimum markup and good shipping rate, so I linked it to let people know where they can waste money on a bunch of tiny pry bars.

Mine comes from the themesong to the TV series Firefly.  It is fitting for me as a helicopter pilot.  However, if you burn the land and boil the sea, I might not have much place to land.  :D
