How do you carry your Swiss Tool?
on: May 22, 2009, 07:59:54 PM
I bought 2 used swiss tools recently for a really good price and am looking for some options or suggestions for sheaths.   Does everyone use the standard Victorinox belt sheaths or what other options do I have?  I'm thinking along the lines of something compact.  Either multitool or multitool and small flashlight.  I see Nite Ize has a mini pockits or has anyone made their own?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there buddy. I'd suggest having a look at the LM Charge and/or Surge sheaths. They can be worn both horizontally and vertically, have enough space (and pockets) to hold your tool, a small (AAA/AA) flashlight, etc., and are as compact as it gets.

Here is my EDC my Kick with a clip and a Climber and Swiss pouch. I like my Swiss pouch with a clip. I can use it with or without a belt or clip it on my pocket.

From one of these...

It clips on to the cutouts in the side of the ST, and is a very comfortable method of carry, and has the added bonus of being a lot more discrete than a belt pouch :)

Mike will that hook fit in the lanyard hole on the STs or do you have some other means of attaching it? All of my hooks are too wide to fit, so I've tied a small loop of paracord through that hole just for that purpose.

Now that's strange... I got a Vic lanyard (the one that comes with MFV) to be used explicitly for my STs and Spirits but the hook is too wide to go through the hole, although the end piece looks exactly like that on your pic...

The clip is the same size on both the chain and the belt hanger :)

What style of ST is it? Is it one of the earlier ones with just a round hole, or one with the newer larger cutouts ???

I've tried that on an older ST-X ('98 head), the forum auction BO ST ('05 head) and all of my Spirits. Are we talking about the same holes? The ones where you also fit the corkscrew attachment?

With mine it's either carried in a Blackhawk mag pouch ( can be worn vertical or horizontal ) , or loose in my pack .

My SwissTool came with a black ballistic nylon pouch with Vic logo snap closure.

I find the leather pouches by Victorinox to be cheesy/low quality, except for the SOS pouch for the Swiss Champ.

Just wanted to post a quick update.  Thanks for all the recommendations and suggestions.  I ended up going with the Leatherman Surge sheath which came in Saturday and it's awesome.  Perfect for the Swisstool and Vic flashlight.

Thanks for all your help.

Martin

A better feeling than finding a fiver you'd forgotten about in a jacket pocket I bet :D

Not really, I wasn't actually looking for it. I braked a bit sharpish and it smacked me on my heel, before sliding under the clutch pedal. I "carefully placed it in the back" after that. No doubt it will jump out on me again when I've forgotten about it.

I used to come here a lot.

First post here (but I've been lurking and reading for quite some time).

I just bought this horizontal sheath made by Victorinox:  http://www.victorinoxstores.com/victorinox/product.asp?s_id=0&prod_name=Victorinox+Pouch+SwissTool+Horizontal&pf_id=PAAAAAOFLIGCJENE&dept_id=3448&mscssid=XQD0045XW48P9LAP18PSEV7C97A34VN4

It's very secure as your belt goes through the back of the sheath itself.  I like the design and aesthetics but would prefer snaps over velcro.

They also have a leather horizontal sheath for 91mm up to four layers:  http://www.victorinoxstores.com/victorinox/product.asp?prod_name=Victorinox+Belt+Leather+Pouch+Horizontal&pf_id=PAAAIAAJGNEMJAAC&dept_id=3448&s_id=0&

.......and a leather "converter" to change vertical sheaths to horizontal:  http://www.victorinoxstores.com/victorinox/product.asp?s_id=0&prod_name=Victorinox+Belt+Pouch+Horizontal&pf_id=PAAAAAFONFABMKOF&dept_id=3448&mscssid=XQD0045XW48P9LAP18PSEV7C97A34VN4

When I had to hang the sheath to a shoulder strap, I just made the "converter" with two cable fasteners on top and bottom of the original loop.
They are still in place, even now I'm back to the belt :/
