Memorial Day-Military families
on: May 23, 2009, 03:18:36 AM
Who has military in their family?
My dad was in the Marine Corp for 12 years during the Vietnam era.
My brother in law was in the Army for 8 years.
One of my dads relatives fought and died in Midway. Uncle i think.
Granddad was in the Air Force during the Korean war.
Granny was an Army nurse during ww2.
Great Grandad was in the Army air corp during ww2.--he has some great pics too!

No Civil war relatives as we didn't come over until the 1870s thru New Orleans.

This is not limited to just US members..what about you overseas members?

They were at Point Pleasant--both sides. In Daniel Morgan's Corps of Riflemen at Saratoga, went with Benjamin Cleveland along with the other Overmountainmen to King's Mountain. They were at Shiloh,Vicksburg,Gettysburg, and the Wilderness. They were in the 10th Airforce in the CBI,in the US 1st Army in NW Europe.Dad served in the Air Force when Hell froze solid and they called it Korea. One of my cousins was killed in Vietnam serving in the 25th ID,and I served in the Ohio National Guard.

My father was in the Air Force. I spent three years as a kid growing up in Okinawa, Japan.

My grandad was in the army when the Germans invaded and after Norway fell to the Nazis he joined the resistance. I know lots of guys that have been in Lebanon, Kosovo, Bosnia and Afghanistan. There is a guy at work that was a muhajedin in Afghanistan and fought against the Soviet Union.
I spent 1.5 year in the air force as a medic
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

Dad did his National Service from 1948-50, my Grandad (on my dad's side) was a machine gunner in the Great War, and two uncles served in WWII. One was part of the forces left behind to guard the rear at Dunkirk, he knew he was going to be left behind but continued to fight. He spent the rest of the war in a Stalag.

On my mother's side my Grandad served in WWII, my uncle joined the paras in the 1950's.
