But I do love modern design aircraft, have anyone seen the Beech starship private jet? Commercial flop but it looks darn good.

I've always been a Hurricane fan myself.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Hurricane#Flying_the_Hurricane

By no means as pretty as the Spitfire it was certainly an excellent plane.

Agreed. The two planes that stopped you and me speaking German, and looking good whist they did it.

Coincidentally, I caught a bit of a documentary earlier about Concorde, the crash, the project to try and het the air worthiness certificate reinstated and the eventual decision to retire the fleet. One of my ambitions that I'll never realise now, but surely most would agree that Concorde was a thing of beauty.
I used to come here a lot.

+1 on the Corsair...but to me the real war winners were these two prosaic, hard working birds. The DC-3/C-47/Dakota...and the AT-6/SNJ/Harvard

Another Corsair fan here.  it's a plane that looked 'purposeful' to say the least.

With those lines and humps in its wings, if there were ever such a thing as a "muscle plane", it would be the Corsair... :D

My favorite WWII plane is the P-38.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-38_Lightning

I think the reason that is is that one of my granddad's friends was a P-38 mechanic during the war and as such was a huge fan. He was always telling me stories and often bought me toy P-38's and a model or 2 of them.

Gotta agree with Dave there.   The Spitfire is such a beautiful aircraft.  It and the Lancaster are my favourite aircraft.

I had airfix models of all these planes when I was younger.  This thread is making me want to dig them out from the attic :)
