Oh dear, I hope this doesn't mean they are going to come in and meddle with everything?

Unless of course they can be convinced to produce a nice outside opening tools design for us :D

Holy Crap it's already on google!  :o :ahhh What is this world coming to? Found this too:

Press Release
IRVINE, Calif., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunter Wise Financial Group, LLC, and Craig Primo, Managing Director, are pleased to announce that SOG Knives, Inc. (www.sogknives.com), based in Lynnwood, Washington has been purchased by MCC Capital Partners based in New York.

SOG is a leading manufacturer and distributor of branded high-end knives and multi-tools for the recreation, industrial/DIY, military and law enforcement markets. The company markets more than 100 proprietary products through its diverse retail network worldwide. Mr. Primo, Managing Director of Hunter Wise's Consumer Products Group, is responsible for building the Company's corporate finance and mergers and acquisition programs in this sector. "The SOG transaction is an example of how experience can be the difference between success and failure in this very tight credit market. I believe that our team's history in consumer products - specifically outdoor products - was key," Mr. Primo said.

Hunter Wise Financial Group, LLC, is a specialized investment bank providing the highest quality level of corporate financing, merger, acquisition, divestiture and advisory services. The Company's clients include small to medium-sized public companies, as well as selected middle market, privately-held businesses. Hunter Wise has 12 offices in the U.S. and offices in China, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Think I need to ask Chris@SOG about this??

Oops... I don't like these MCC guys. Looks like a standard venture capital firm to me (as opposed to Hunter Wise) and that can't be good... :-\

My initial reaction is  :-\

There's no ryme or reason as far as I can tell that explains why this happened...for all I know this could be the greatest thing, but there's no information to decide one way or another. ???

I don't think SOG stuff will start dissapearing...it's the opposite of "going out of business".  As far as I can tell, SOG must have been hurting financially (what company in America isn't these days?), and contacted that MCC group to keep them afloat.

I'd still like to read something directly from SOG about all this.

I suspect that this is just a symptom of the fact we are in a global recession.  Remember that questionnaire we all filled in?  Well, looked at from a certain point of view, that could be read as "we are in financial trouble and if we had to move our production to China would you hate us forever"?  This is total speculation on my part and, to be honest, I'd rather they were bought out rather than go under completely.  Who knows? This buy out may just mean that the production can stay in the USA.

Guess they´ll do what every investor does -

either A.

cutting cost, pushing sales and ads, trying to attract customers (maybe cheaper products - China?)

or B.

I the company is really on the ground, take patents, machines, factories (if there are any) contracts and everything else and try to sell the pieces more expensive than the whole lot cost you.

one of these two is most likely to happen.

I don’t know what to make of this. Why has this happened? Has anyone sent SOG a m@il asking them what is going on?

Uh oh, I'm holding off any SOG purchase for now...

Why?  Seems like the secondary market will still have pre-MCC parts for the near future.

That said, I hope they can keep production in the U.S.A.  Perhaps this buy out is just a way to expand SOG sales into new markets.

Uncertain future of the company. There are some parts for the MT but others like blade assist spring is factory only, and I don't know how this will change their customer service.

Not being American, I really couldn't give a toss where they make them.

As long as the price / quality remain in balance, I can only see an opportunity for better pricing - after Spyderco did fine with their Byrd range.
I used to come here a lot.

Luckily I don't insist on buying British made multitools, therefore I own several!

I really hope they keep making their good stuff - SOG are amongst my all time favourites.

Guys calm down, I am e-mail Chris as we speak about this buy-out and then when I get to Blade I will speak to him in person and maybe Spencer as well if he is there (he was there last year). Maybe I can find out what is going on over there.
