Some of the best coffee I've had was from fast food joints...sometimes it's the only coffee for miles and it always goes down good.  And on the other side of the coin, I've gotten coffee from a coffee shop and it sucked!

I'm addicted :ahhh

As a rule I make my own coffee, and tend not to drink it in restaurants or what have you.

I find the Coffee market a bizarre one, what with as you say, terrible coffee shops, and McCafe Prontos (Only available from the Drive Through!)
Around here a local coffee brand (the name escapes me for the moment) has close ties with a religous sect that (apparently) performs questionable activities with troubled women.

Back to the point, I half suspect that it has nothing to do with coffee, so much as the idea of being busy & needing a fast coffee, or having a lifestyle and drinking soy frappe latte ristretto espresso cappucino grande. If you can sell a $4 drink at the same time, all the better.

I am not a huge coffee drinker, but the Green Mountain variety at McDonalds is pretty good.. It's way better than Starbucks, IMO.

I'm a huge drinker of huge coffee, and I have come to the conclusion that you only get really good coffee in Italy. Or my house ;)

I used to come here a lot.

There´s no Wendy´s in Austria (is there one outside the USA) so I never tried any of their offerings.

But coffee at McDonalds and Burgerking is OK, KFC coffee is even better (here in Austria, may be different in the US). Starbucks is ok too - but the best coffee can be found in small cafes here. I love espresso and even stronger ristretto, even if they´re not "Austrian", and there are some pretty good places to get good stuff here. For anyone to visit Graz and who loves good coffee: Try TRIBEKA (Trink besseren Kaffee, drink better coffee), they´re an American style coffeeshop and love their products. All baristas there are skilled and know how to make it right!

btw: Austria might be famous for its "kaffeehauskultur", but I do not like it that much. It´s more the tourist and older people places, but nice to be there once a year  :D http://www.austria.info/xxl/_site/uk/_area/417080/_subArea/681760/_aid/689988/home.html

To be on topic again: I do not like coffee frostings or any other artificially flavored coffee stuff.  McDonalds Cafe Cool is quite good, but I can not believe the Wendy´s stuff is made with real fresh coffee.

::)

(you had seen that coming, didn't you? :D)

On topic: I'm a huge fan of coffee. I tend to drink french coffee when at home or at work, mainly because I can produce it in quantities adequate to take me through the day (~4-5 large cups) or night (2-3 large cups). When I feel like quality coffee, I go with some cold Italian coffee (a cafe by my old workplace made teh best freddo capuccino i've ever tasted, and I've been to Italy on a couple of occasions...) or the traditional Greek offering (Greek/Turkish coffee). I used to drink tons of what we call "frappe" coffee, which is a total hazmat thing if you ask me but tourists and youngsters seem to really like it... ::) FWIW all those Wendy's, McD's, et al. coffees fall in the same hazmat bucket... which isn't totally bad if you don't have a choice and need a caffeine shot, but should be avoided otherwise.
