Brasso's very good in my experience
I use brasso too. It's also an excellent stropping fluid if you really want to pamper your blade.
And WD40 is still the dog's wotsits for a good preliminary clean

I dont like WD-40 for cleaning. WD-40 traps dust which is not a good thing. I use "Break Free" which is the same stuff used for cleaning guns. I also use a toothbrush and soft cloth. Here is a Gerber I just finished:http://www.gundogsonline.com/shooting-supplies/gun-cleaning-supplies/break-free-clp.html
WD40 has been seeing less lubricating jobs around my house after getting LPS#2. For general cleaning I use soap and warm water. For the down and dirty cleaning Brasso and soap/water. For lubricating my knives that touch food I'll use mineral oil, otherwise I like Eazox or Militec-1. Eazox is better at abating rust though.
