AA or AAA
on: June 09, 2009, 07:03:29 PM
New member after some advice. I am buying a LM Surge for work use and i figure if i am carrying it around i may as well get as many features crammed in the sheath as possible! So i need a recommendation for either a AA or AAA that i can fit in the sheaths elastic side pocket. I was looking at a Serac s2 but i thought if i can find a small enough AA it might be worth it. The Nitecore EZAA looks small but i am open to all suggestions. The Surge sheath is longer than the charges etc. so i thought an AA might be better as i am only planning on buying one to last me.

Any advice appreciated

I would highly suggest the Fenix EO1, the Gerber Tempo and Fenix LOD However i'm waiting for a Streamlight Micro Stream which should fit.

Not sure on the AA front but I have a AAA Fenix L0D Q4 and love it.  The slightly updated version is the LD01.  I've heard good things about the AA equivalent the L1D Q5.  Aren't the naming systems great.  :D

AA might be a bit of a stretch to fit it in the side pocket. Length is not the problem, width is, you may have a hard time getting tool in and out with AA.

Just checked the L1D,it does fit. However it's a bit tight, but not to tight that you can't get the tool out.

I agree, the L0D is a cracking light.

Go for AAA IMO.  Much easier to get in and out.
I'm back!!

+1 on a Fenix. I have an LD10 (AA) and an LD20 (2xAA) which are both excellent lights.
They are both higher output types so obviously eat batteries a little faster than some others - it really depends on what your needs are light wise  :)

Thanks for the replys. All valid points. The fenix range seems comprehensive. Does anyone have any experience with the serac s2 ? I understand it is made by Fenix as well ? I like the look of the clip setup and the fact it is button on/off. Any comments on the Nitecore EZAA? it might be my only plausible AA option size wise........

I am going with the Fenix LD01. It seems like a great all rounder and perfect size. 50AUD shipped. Perfect. Thanks for the suggestions.

I just scored a Stainless Steel LD01 on ebay for $40US on best offer option. Seems like a good price. I hate it when your offer is accepted instantly! always makes you think you could have got it cheaper ! I am happy, i got the stainless for the standard price. Happy days.

Oh nice torch.  :tu:  If I didn't have a L0d already it's just the one I'd have gone for.  I'm certain you'll be happy with it.

Not sure. It just says keychain included in the package contents description. Why do you ask?

I remember seeing a picture once and it came with a nice linked neck chain, not like the normal ball type. And I wanted to know if they all came with that particular chain  :tu:
