550 cord, aka Paracord. In the military, we use LOTS of it for anything and everything!!!
I can vouch for Rotokid's paracord - it's good stuff. It reminds me actually, those of you that cleaned me out of the bright paracord at the UK meetup - did anyone make anything worth seeing? Where's the pics, eh?
Cheers Gareth
Thanks but I have to admit that they are all done with just two knots:
Yeah, the yellow and black speckled stuff Ryan gave me is some kind of climbers cord. Not as strong if I remember Ryan right.
This thread made me realise I did have that last little bit of the yellow kicking around to I made up my favourite simple fobs. Now nattily setting of the red on a tourist.
You can't beat a nice lanyard/diamond knot really, handsome and useful I like a nice monkeys fist for that purpose too but the smaller ones are fiddly and I have to be in the mood to fiddle!

Those I did on a gas cooker. I used to use a Zippo/Clipper/Bic lighter but I suspect that a lot of the discolouration comes from the quite dirty, yellow flame that they produce. My thought is to try and use the cleanest bluest flame you can.
