Kick vs. Blast

What are the general reasons someone would carry a Kick instead of a Blast?  I was comparing the two tools, trying to imagine a scenario where a Kick would come in handy but not a Blast, and I have to admit, I came up empty.  The slightly bulkier Blast seems like it would always be a better EDC than a Kick.

What am I not taking into consideration?  Certainly there must be some way the Kick trumps the Blast, I just lack the experience to think of it.  Thanks in advance!

The Blast is larger and heavier, and does not have the ability to accept a pocket clip. Some people only need basic tools, the saw/file may be totally unnecessary for a given individual. Also, the Kick doesn't lock, another personal preference issue. One major point for the Kick is that you can carry it IWB with the pocket clip, a method I generally prefer if sheath carry is not an option. Can't do this with the Blast.

So; size, weight and cost. No real functional advantage to the Kick although I guess the slightly thinner pliers may be able to accomplish some small percentage of tasks the larger pliers cannot.

It is thinner and cheaper so it could be appreciated by those who do not need a larger set of tools for EDC.  Whilst the Blast does supply more function it does so at the expense of extra weight; some people are quite sensitive about the weight of their EDC (though not me I'll admit ).

The lack of locking blade could also be beneficial in those countries where carrying locking blades is frowned upon.

I prefer the Kick to my mate's Blast because it has the basic EDC tools for me. I do tend to carry the Kick when going out for the day etc Plus it's UK legal and thinner.

I don't have a Kick but I do have the Blast and Fuse.  Personally I find the ergonomics of the slightly thicker handles on the Blast make it quite a bit less comfy to use than the Fuse.  So I can only imagine that the Kick will be a more comfortable tool to use than the Blast, for those of us without shovels for hands.

The Kick also makes a great beater because it is cheap and simple. I always grab my Kick when I am worried that I might damage my other tools.

It is also good as a supplement to another multitool, for those times when you need 2 pliers, or when you need to hold something while unscrewing it, etc.

Kicks are cheap compared to the rest of the range, this is good   They're lighter and are easy to add a clip to. 

Personally, I'd prefer to carry a PST or SideClip to a Kick but that's primarily because of the jobs I want to do with the pliers, I do appreciate the Kick has the more substantial head.

It does boil down to preference as most have said above I think price point and weight are most ppls reason for carrying the Kick

Thanks! I got my Kick used and my Blast on sale, so I had not really considered price. Thinner pliers as well is something that escaped me.  Thank you!

As it has been said, the low asking price $25-30 is very affordable and it is the best $30 tool on the market, IMO. Even though the Suspension has more tool options, I'd still rather a Kick!

Yeah if the budget was 30 bucks then I'd be having a Kick myself over the other options

As most people know I'm a loud and proud member of the "Spirit" cult but my dirty little secret is that I love the Kick too. As noted above, it's cheap. If you look around occasionally you can pick them up for well under $20. And the pocket clip is a HUGE deal for me. I simply won't carry a MT w/o one. And yes, my Spirit has a pocket clip.


Plus minimalism is a big deal for some people and the Kick fits the bill. To me it's the spiritual successor of the original PST so that means something too.
