Excellent observations. I personally find Vis more useful for many of the reasons you listed.

Let me come to the defense of Wengers...

The locking blades on the Wengers are very nice.  It's not a liner lock, it is a push button and can be operated one-handed easily.   I have a Wenger Cascade and S557 which have a locking blade and it is my favorite feature on a SAK.

The S557 and the Large Mountain Bike have a universal wrench which is very good for nuts up to about 5/16 size.

The chain breaker on the Mountain Bike models is extemely good, and there's a wrench that completely detaches from the knife for ease of use.

IMO, the bottle opener (cap lifter) is slightly more effective than the Vic version.

Although Wengers don't command the same collector demand as Vics, they are excellent knives with very innovative features.

I really like the Alox Vics though too.  :D

SHUSH!!

Do not leak the name of the most hallowed of all SAKs to one who is questioning their faith!  The WBT (secret code, this way he won't know what we're talking about) is too zen to partake in the crude and tawdry business of a comparison review.  The WBT is compared only to itself--other SAKs may be shown for scale, however.

If he finds his way, the WBT will reveal itself to him. 8)

My biggest worry is that if I do get a WBT, I may be allowed to bring that to work without anyone being the wiser.  >:D :pok: :pok: :twak: :D

Well I just emailed FelineVet that above list. It should be a good jumping point. I don’t want to get everything in one shot. Maybe my next list will focus on Wenger.

Vic for me, but I do have a Wenger Evogrip S18 which I really like. The SAKWIKI is a brilliant tool for checking out the many models of both  :D

I found another web site that I found indispensible for examining the differences between Victorinox models.

Smartknives.com

I did not know about Sakwiki. Thanks.  :tu:

I know they are a business, but the information and photos they have for the various models I have found very helpful. Especially how you can see them by size groupings.

Oh, Wenger made MTs? I just assumed they didn’t. Those will definitely go on the must get list for a future acquisition.

you NEED a safari hunter(108mm) with the serrated gutting blade :tu:

You're right, he does.

With regards to collecting, I find it far more interesting to get the older, limited or discontinued SAK's so they could be a good way to start.

If he likes them big, he'll certainly want to check out the Wenger New Rangers as well:

(the little one top left is a Vic OHT for scale).
