Lost my job
on: June 16, 2009, 12:57:56 AM
Well I found out today my job had become redundant.  It sucks especially in this climate, but I taking it as a blessing.  I was having to commute an hour one way everyday and the travel got to be very consuming.  So now the search begins, so please keep my in your thoughts and prayers along with my family.

Ah hell... that sucks man!

Keep your head up and spend as much of your newly discovered free time as you can with your boy.  Hopefully you'll find something soon.

Zack man, I feel for you.  It really does stink, but I wouldn't suggest that you let it get you down.  As one who can easily get into a depressed funk (it doesn't take much, but I am getting better!) I know how hard something like this can hit you.  The reality is though, things like this happen- if it wasn't the job, and it wasn't now, it would have been something else at another time.  Either way, these things happen, and they can be dealt with simply by assessing the situation and asking yourself "what am I going to do about it?"  I know that sounds kind of callous, but in my experience sh*t is going to happen and your choices are to wallow in it or stand up straight and not let it get to you.

I've done a fair bit of both, and let me tell you, the standing up thing is really much better!

This is a great time for corporate head hunters as they get to pick and choose the cream of the crop, so that when things get better with the economy (do they ever really get better or is it degrees of bad? :P) they can make greater strides.  It's up to you to be one of the people they choose!

So in the past two days I have filled out 20 applications and filed for unemployment.  My goal is to find a job before I can even get benefits, but I figured I might as well get it out of the day.  This seriously couldn't have come at a better time.  My wife and I have one month left on our apartment lease, and then we are moving in with her parents (been planning this for months) to save up money to buy a house.  No rent, utilities, groceries for as long as we need it.  Do I like moving back in with her parents...no...but they are good people and they give us our space.  Most of the credit cards are paid off, or they have very small payments to make, my car is paid for, hers is almost.  This can work, and I WILL FIND A JOB.

it sucks, I'm sure you'll find something though...

I have two friends of mine who have been unemployed for a long time who have been job hunting for what seems like forever, and they both landed jobs since the economy went down the toilet... so not all is bad out there... it's just changing.

Well you certainly have some unique job qualifications.

I have found that things happen for a reason. Change can be a good thing. And that if you want to make something work, chances are good that things will fall into place and work.

I have also personally found that even though there are tough times, if one perseveres, there are always times when things get better.

Keep your chin up man.  :tu:
