Date of manufacture?
on: June 18, 2009, 06:12:06 PM
First off, cheers to MikeLotS for the heads up. :cheers:

Now onto the question:

This is coming to a post office box near me from felinevet.  :tu:

I'm thinking this must date to 1946-52 due to the can opener.  Is that a fair assessment?  Anyone know what this particular knife model was called?

To me, it's like a predecessor of the Farmer

I'd go with that as a good guess on the date.  That is a thing of beauty isn't it.  :drool:

It is a Farmer's type of knife but I am not really sure if they actually named this one. The can opener dates this piece to no earlier than 1951. The new style can opener came out in 1951 so yours pre-dates that. When you get it you will probably find that the liners are nickel-silver instead of the modern day alox. Nickel-silver liners are much harder and heavier than alox liners and usually will not corrode like the alox ones do either but they do take on a patina coloration. Check the tang stamps against the tang stamp lists shown here to help in further narrowing down the date;
