Help on cleaning up BO SOG

I just got my hands on a used BO powerlock. It's in generally good condition but has some surface rust, especially around the joints. I know that SOGs are meant to be easily disassembled. Does anyone have a guide or some tips on how to do this? I don't think I have the tool needed to turn the screw though.

Also, I usually just use some WD40 for rust. But this being my first BO tool, is that going to work too? Will the black surface come off and leave me with a silver patch if I do that?

You need sockets or even pliers but you need two of them s I have found out! One to grasp one end and the other that turns

The bolts that hold SOGs together are 1/4"...you can use nut drivers or sockets to take them apart.

I'm surprised there's rust on a BO tool...it must have been used hard and neglected!

I've used WD40 and a lot of other oils/lubricants on my BO Powerlock and nothing came off, so I woulden't woory about that.

I soaked mine in WD40 the BO looks the same I guess look at the picture I post of mine in the swap forum.

They come apart real easy, no guide necessary.  Just use 2 sockets as started above and off you go.

the BO will probably be gone/thinned where it was rusted, when you clean it off but don't worry
it will be fine and have some nice character.

yes 1/4 inch sockets, pliers/small adjustable wrench will get the bolts off,
just go slow and easy and it's a breeze.

Oops! I disassembled before taking any photos! haha, sorry about that, I'll just do after and try to describe before.

I read here and there that you guys use something called Loctite before putting on screws again. So I gather from googling that this is an adhesive to make sure the screw stays tight. Is this absolutely necessary? I do not have this product.

yes, hardware stores (even walmart type/large department chains) carry it or similar stuff. it helps screws/bolts/parts from eventually loosening up over time from repeated vibrations and movements.

it helps but not necessary just keep an eye on the bolts so they don't come loose after repeated use, you should be fine.

worst case scenario is your out somewhere and you use your tool alot and it comes so lose and you don't watch it and the bolts come off and your inner tools fall out and you don't know it!

most of the time the tools just get looser than you like. eventually I'd suggest getting some type of loctite (their are generic brands).
