Best Alox??
on: June 19, 2009, 03:54:13 AM
Looking to pick up 1 or 2 alox knives b4 amazon promo ends. Looking at the pioneer rancher or pioneer harvester - both have the hawk bill blade, harvester has wood saw, is about $4 more. wondering about the thickness difference between the 2

Also looking for other alox recommendations.  :tool: Thanks, BB

If you can get the 84mm scissors it can be done.  :)

+1 on the Cadet as well.  Has to be my most often carried Alox.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Cadet yes!

84mm scissors NO!

I think my grandfather had something similar to a Cadet with scissors. This was some time ago...I remember it was alox or metal-ish scales (different texture not like the current alox one...more smooth...though only ever handled it a couple of times???) but it didn't have a file (probably a rip off or my bad memory...this was years ago!!!)

Could it have been a Voyageur? http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Voyageur

They also came with the straight lined ribbed scales.  I know Neil has one but I suspect he'll never give it up.  ;)

I've been meaning to pick one of these up to compare and contrast my Vic old model Soldier.

im guessing this topic has been discussed b4?  :D

i mistyped earlier, ordered rancher & elec+ not harvester.

passed on some of the other models due to repeat tools and can opener which is not a necessity these days. scissors would be great instead of can opener and/or a phillips would make for an awesome sak
