Techy Help needed.
on: June 20, 2009, 03:06:02 PM
Hi,

so here's the story my old desk top is just too slow these days so i've put it in the garage. But i have a 22 inch (i think!) monitor,so i was wondering if i connect the laptop up to the monitor could i have two different things going on at the same time Forum and work for example.

Cheers
Josh

Probably yes, but it depends on the laptop ::) :D

-Plug the monitor into the back of the laptop, using the (probably blue) vga lead.
-Turn monitor on
-Right click on the desktop
-In XP click 'Properties' in Vista click 'Personalise'
-For XP go to the tab in the box that appears that says 'Settings' and in Vista go to the 'Display Settings' link at the bottom of the box.
-You should see a blue box with a '1' and a greyed out box with a '2' in it.
-Click on the greyed out box and look for the tick box next to 'Extend my desktop onto this monitor'
-Put a tick in the box
-Click apply and see what happens :)

Simply drag the program window to the right (usually) (has to be un-maximised to do this :) )

If the monitor is physically on the left of the laptop then go into the display settings again and drag the '2' box to the left of the '1' box and then drag off the left hand side :)

VERY true :D :D

You're not far off actually :D The past few days I've had 4 screens on my desktop and then had two laptops running (one being fixed, the other for work files) so 6 screens and not an awful lot of space :D Gone back to 3 screens on my desktop though as the 4th just made it too wide to use comfortably, need to get some sort of vertical stand going to stack two on top of each other 8)

that NEC one is sweeet... I've wanted another screen for a long time...

I used to have this setup in 2000 with CRTs!

I'm not that impressed with it really, yes the concept is pretty good but the lack of vertical resolution is silly, it should be at least 1024 if not more :(
