For Benner...My Swisstool Story.

So I am traveling down I-75 toward Atlanta to a job fair to fulfill my unemployment.  I am going with traffic which is around 75-80 miles an hour in the fast lane and all of a sudden about 5 cars ahead of me I see a yellow Pontiac Aztec that had the tread come off the tire.  She started heading toward the shoulder so I was thinking scary but I think she will make it without incident, and then she slams on the breaks and makes a 90 degree turn on two wheels to the other shoulder across the highway.  In her path was a silver Nissan Altima that she just creams, and then continues to the other shoulder bouncing off of a semi truck.  Now I am almost in a wreck as I am watching what unfolds, but I make it to the shoulder, but no one else is stopping, so I park my car and jump out.

Now keep in mind I am in dress cloths and the only thing I am EDCing is a timekeeper and my orange cadet.  But in my console I keep my Swisstool Spirit since I figure it has the best assortment of tools.  So on my way out of the car I grab the tool and my first aid kit.  The guy in the Altima is conscious, but his airbag didn't deflate and was in his face keeping him from being able to communicate so I use the butter knife to cut the airbag.  About half of his glass on the drivers door was still intact so I use the pliers to punch out the rest of the glass (works great).  Now I can asses and see if he has any injuries.  He is complaining about his neck, chest, back, and head hurting. His seatbelt was still stuck in the restraint position and he said it was hurting his chest, so I use the butter knife again to cut the seatbelt (again, works great as a rescue blade).  He was trying to reach for his cell phone in the floorboard on the passenger side so I told him to sit back and I will get it for him.  I go around to the passenger side but can't open the door so I use the pliers again to bust out the glass and reach in a grab his cell phone so he can call his loved ones. 

By that time the police and the highway response unit shows up, and handle the situation.  Last I heard everyone was ok, but I may have to go to court, since the lady thinks she was hit but I could see that she wasn't.  So all in all the Swisstool did its job and I find it great to keep in the car, just hide it well and keep your doors locked.

Wow!! I bet that was a bit scary. It sounds like you handled everything great though. It definitely proves the value of keeping a MT on you or at least in your car at all times. Keep us updated on everything.

Since I don't belt carry a MT is usually in my bag or car or within reach, and I usually just carry a SAK, but now I am thinking about maybe trying out belt carry to see how I like it.

Wow crazy story Zack. I wouldn't know how I would act in the same situation. You swisstool did come in handy didn't it. I have driven in Atlanta many times and I hate it. I always try to come up with some reason not to go down there when my wife wants to go.
