Kabar Dozier Orange Handle is Zytel?
on: July 03, 2009, 02:09:31 AM
Was thinking of ordering two more of the Kabar Dozier lockbacks, a 3 inch spearpoint and a 2.25 inch drop point both with the bright orange handles.

However, I seem to recall seeing pics on MTO of someone's Orange Kabar Dozier that was undergoing a mod, or maybe a cleanup.  Maybe it was SporK's knife, but I can't recall.

Anyway, I seem to recall that its orange handle wasn't really orange zytel (or FRN or whatever) but was only a thin orange coating over a black handle that was peeling off in the pics.

Anyone else remember these pics or the thread they are in?

If it's not actually orange plastic, but a coating that'll peel off with use, then I'll just order the knives with black handles.

Thanks for any help.

 The orange Dozy handle is Zytel. I stripped off the epoxy paint on the blade...

Thanks, SporK.

Maybe I mis-remembered the pics - probably was just black coating was peeling off the blade.  Whatever it was, I have a memory of it looking kind of ratty.  ;>

Guess I'll go with the orange handle Doziers for the great outdoors.

Thanks, Sean - that's exactly the 3 inch Dozier I want.

IMHO, that's a really good looking knife - simple, classic lines.  I like the look of the spearpoint blade better than the other blades available.  Also like the thumbstud model better than the ones with holes in the blades, like in SporK's pics.

glad to be of help guys.  They are a great folder for the money.  Nice and light carry.  You can also get one for just about every outfit if you are into matching.  :D  Black, green, orange, coyote brown to name some.  They are only $28 up in Canada so a real bargain.

I've been thinking about a Dozier and this thread is really pushing me towards one. I don't own many liner/frame locks because I really don't like the looks of most of them but this one has  the classic lines I like.

A great source with very low prices:

I've owned the black handle 3 inch Dozier spearpoint for a while now - got it on sale at a gun shop for $16.

After carrying and using the Dozier quite a lot, I think it's the ultimate "bang for the buck" knife available, bar none.  Light to carry but tough.  If you do break it or lose it then it's not a big deal - as it might be with a more expensive knife.
