Photo editing software
on: April 24, 2007, 01:21:58 PM
I am working on a small project and I was hoping to get some help.  I need to lighten the colors (wash them out) to about 50%.  I don't think my preferred graphics program (MS Paint- I know, I can hear the groans from here!) doesn't seem to do it.  I have an older version of Adobe Photoshop (7.0 I think) but I can never seem to convince it to do what I want it to.

Anyone have any simple solutions, or easy software suggestions I could try?

I would recommend GIMP if you want something full-featured and free.  It is powerful editing software, but the learning curve can be a bit steep, as things are done a bit differently than with typical software like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro.  There are lots of great guides out there to get you started though.

I thik I'll check that out.  I think I found what I needed in my printer/scanner software for my current project, so that's taken care of.  Of course, I have hundreds of other things I need better software than Paint for, so I'll have a look at GIMP.

Thanks!

Def,

Photoshop 7.0 would do it fine.  Just do the Levels control (Ctrl-L) & lighten it up a bit by either pulling the middle slider on the graph to your right (lightens midtones) or by pulling the bottom slider - I think it's the left slider (this lightens the whole picture).

I use Irfanview. It is a picture viewer that lets you manipulate photos no mater what file system they are in. Lets you alter just about all the features of a photo and also check the Exif file so you can see which camera you (or others) had used to take a photo on. To mess around with a photo I use Photoshop Elements but for most thing Irfanview does the business.

Free ware and you will need the plugins as well that install themselves after you download and click on them (no messing about looking for folders to put them in). If you have not seen it before, it is worth a look at.

I use Adobe photoshop Album .. it has a Auto fix feature which makes all of my photo's dramatically better... It wont do anything fancy .. but it improves my pictures no-end.

Very nice....

I have been getting nice results from my printer/scanner software though and I think I am going to stick with it for the time being.  Rather than install something else, I think until I need something else done, I'll just stick with what I have.

Thanks for the suggestions though!

Ouch!

I'll bet that left a sick feeling in your stomach.  :(

Oh well, looking back it was probably a GOOD thing, right? Had you never broken the blade, do you think you ever would have attampted to make a new one?

I'll second the nomination for Irfanview.  It's excellent software, and small enough that I keep a copy on my U3 flash drive.

If you are really into that kind of thing, I can give you my mother in law's address?

eventually .... I did suggest it about 4 month's ago on BB. I probably would have done it when I had screwed the blade up in some other way ... Im good at ruining stuff  ::)

There was a almost legitimate reason .. I was going to burn them and didn't want the air causing them to pop while in the fire .. not sure how legal it is to burn them though ... I changed my mind after the first one and I now use then to sit on in the garden.
