Archery
on: July 10, 2009, 07:47:34 AM
I am curious. How many people in here partake and enjoy archery?

I do not hunt, but most certainly enjoy target shooting. It is a fantastic sport. I don’t compete, but just enjoy it, both on the 3D range and indoor.

Here are a few of my older bows and my new compound. I also just received my Olympic recurve...and will show you that one once I get it all set up and photographs taken.

Bear Formula Silver Olympic recurve.

Martin Lynx Magnum.

Xi Legacy.

High Country Excalibur.

Martin Onza.

My new bow. APA Black Mamba MX1.

I got a Robin Hood on my second outing with this bow sighting it in. It is now hanging with the rest of them at the club. This bow is rock solid and a real shooters dream.

Fantastic bow's mate

I used to do a fair bit of archery when I was younger, and I've even bought a bow with a veiw to picking it up again :)

But both the archery sites near me have to by law charge you a stupid amount of money to do an instructional course before they let you loose on the targets ::)

Yet none of it seems to help all that much. :D

I'm still waiting for reports on the widespread use of the diver knife for muggings.

Anyhow, beautiful bows!

I've always wanted to get into it but...
Turns out I'm too lazy to participate in anything that could be considered a sport. :D

My bro is good -very good, indeed- archer. He's got a compound and a take-down.

I'm far less good; I've never bought more than a 20lbs take down and a 30lbs crossbow. I'm good only with the second :/

I also luv Archery, we pulled our bows today (getting back to shooting form).

I'm a Mathews fan, I have an LX and she has a FXII (they are older but good).
I pull about 75 and she pulls 40. I use the fingers and she uses the release.

We use the "No-Peeps" sights and luv it, we didn't care for the worm site
hanging on the lines.

LX

FXII

we haven't hunted, no plans too but know we can,
and like you we luv to practice and just shoot  ;)

Well...

Its funny that you say that because bows are like MTs. You can never have enough, and once you get into it, you start looking at what is out there and want to try them all. If you go over to a forum called AcheryTalk, you will see quite a few people who have the archery bug bad.

I haven't touched a Bow since Boy Scouts in the early 90's. Been kinda shy about them after being a witness to an accident. Saw the string de-flesh an arm.  Ouch!

I used to shoot a little but since my shoulder surgeries I can't do it anymore. I've considered getting a crossbow but haven't decided yet.

Nice bows folks.

This weekend, I am hoping to take out the Hoyt Helix 25" with long Carbon 300 limbs out for a test drive. I still can't believe that it took well over 2 and a half months and still no Hoyt 70" string. I told the archery shop to get me something else. The Hoyt...if it ever comes in, will be a spare.

I love archery!  I don't hunt either but I'm a darned good shot with just about any kind of bow I get my hands on.  Unfortunately, there aren't really any ranges around here.  When I go home I shoot with my dad sometimes and at the camps that I've worked, my job was teaching archery.  I'm not a huge fan of compound bows.  I can shoot them, but they aren't my favorite.  I prefer to shot recurve, but don't own one.  But one of these days I will have one with my own little range set up in the back yard...fun fun fun!!  I've never been able to hit the broad side of a barn with any kind of firearm!

Well I have none of the excellent looking rigs in this thread, but I do have a bendy bit of wood. ;)  not that I'm much good at it but I shoot a traditional British longbow every so often.  Occasionally from the back of a moving horse.  :)

Well if we can rig up a straw target I can certainly bring the bow.  Bringing a trained horse might be logistically.....tricky.

recurves and longbows and other traditional bows are cool, very sporting :tu:

but as Mike might say, a compound is "Techno-Archery" and the power you get
and all the gadgetry you need is fun (and expensive! :ahhh )
