Just wondering what you all recomend for a tomahawk? I would like something good for many uses from tree cutting bush work and self deffense.

This tomahawk is currently being used by the US military. It looks like this one is having a bit of a revival amongst the troops as a carryover from the now famous Vietnam tomahawk, which for its day, was one of the stranger weapons being used on the front lines.

Have you thought about getting a hatchet instead ???

Almost as fast as a 'Hawk, but a hell of a lot more useful :)

I'm not sure this will be all that helpful but most 'hawks today are designed for throwing or self defence.  The Vietnam type 'hawk looks to be awful for wood chopping/cutting.

Have a look here: http://www.ragweedforge.com/ThrowingCatalog.html

I've never had any personal dealings with the guy but I've heard lots of good things about his store.  might be worth dropping him a line and asking about what might suit you.  :)

That is true. Tomahawks are not made for chopping wood. If that is your main task...and what isn't with this type of tool...you should look at a hatchet.

The (semi) custom Ranger Knives hawk I have has a pretty heavy head on it and is a decent chopper.  I have been thinking of putting it up for sale since I haven't used it for a while (and my Cold Steel Kukri has taken over a lot of it's jobs :D )
