  • I just don't know what went wrong.
So... it's better to get your heart impaled sooner rather than later?

... is that the story's lesson? :o

Even though my story isn't quite that dramatic, I was also simply very lucky that the DR found my kidney cancer a couple of years ago.

I had a normal check up with the Dr. I had a slight cold and the Dr wanted to take an X-ray of my chest. He spotted something in my lung that looked suspicious so he sent me for a CT scan. The CT scan showed that the thing in my lung was nothing but that there was something at the top of my kidneys. I guess when thy do a chest CT scan the upper portion of the kidneys is shown.

Anyway, the Dr then called me in to do a sonogram on my kidney that confirmed something on my kidney, a later CT scan confirmed that I had a tumor and I was scheduled for surgery. It was taken out along with my entire right kidney but the cancer was still at grade 1 and there was no evidence of metastasis.

As I've mentioned before if kidney cancer is caught early then the survivability is quite high. However once it spreads to other organs it is notoriously lethal as most kidney cancer doesn't respond to chemotherapy. Of course by the time the symptoms of kidney cancer show up it is quite often metastasized to other organs and is much harder to fight.

Had I not a cold that day and had the Dr not decided to do a chest X-ray I would probably still have this tumor growing inside of me and by the time the symptoms showed up it may have very well been too late.  The Dr estimated it probably would have killed me in 10-15 years had it not been caught. So I can kinda understand how this lady feels.

Serendipity at its finest I'd say (love that word  :D).
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
