Mythbusters - Straight from the Horses's Mouth!
on: July 17, 2009, 08:56:41 PM
I've been enjoying reading all the Mythbusters commentary going on, but it got me curious.  So, in a fit of nerdiness, I went looking for an email address, found one, and...  Well, you guessed it.  I emailed Adam Savage, and asked the burning question:  What sort of multitools are they using?

I really didn't expect to hear anything back.  I figured he was deluged in emails, etc.  But, lo/behold this morning, I had an answer.  I post it here for all your reading enjoyment!  (And, yeah, I did make sure it was OK to post it with Adam.)

There is no simple answer. On my belt right now is a Bill Harsey Lone Wolf knife. As for multitools, I have about 6.

They're all Leathermen. Most often a charge or a charge ti I think. Jamie likes the older black SOG tools. Sort of similartp early leathermen, but I think they're pieces of smurf.

I break a major blade on about 3 multitools per year.

Last year, Jamie and I toured the Leatherman factory in Oregon and had a blast.

Hope that helps.

Wow, glad he could find time out of his busy schedule to say hi. I have invited him to the forum once to come in and say hello but looks like you got more out of him than I could. Congratulations!  :tu:

Seems like multitool makers would give celebs tools as to boost their image and brand awareness on tv.
Here...use this ...and here is a bucket of money for doing so.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I read his answer.   :D

He's definitely a Leatherman guy, though.  And, given the frenetic way he comes across, I can easily see him wrecking havoc on an MT in the heat of a big project.  Or maybe he ran over it while racing on his Segway...    :ahhh

I was quite surprised to get an answer back from him.  Figured anything I sent would simply be lost in an already buried inbox.  Maybe I just caught him at a good time.  You know, the kids were asleep, he was playing with his space suit and fantasizing about particle accelerators, and my email bounces in on his iPhone...    :D

Awesome that Adam shared that little bit of multitool info with you (and us).

I still say that Adam and Jamie & Les Stroud should be honorary MT.O members!  :tu:
