He's not very bright.

He also mentioned rounding the corners on a square frame 3 dot 110.OMG.

It's his knife and he's free do do what he wants but he ruined any value that 3 dot possessed. He could have purchase a new 110 for $40.00 instead.

What the h3ll. If you HAVE a squared handle 3 dot 1981, you should KEEP it a square handle 3 dot 1981.

Do you know how long I had to SEARCH before I found a good specimen 2 dot squared handle? And this guy ruins his on a whim. Like a 7 year old who doesnt know what he's got. Only, he's like 50, and TELLS us he knows what he has, and ruined it anyway.

Yeah Toolguy, you're right. It's his. He can paint it fluorescent orange if he wants. But he held up a newer, rounded Buck 110 anyway. So he HAS a smooth handled one he can use.

By the way, my '78 wood and brass dont quite line up. Wood is short maybe a third of a millimeter at the bolsters where the blade bay is. I can run my finger along the blade groove from the center and just catch it on the brass bolster. Big woop, its 40 years old. And guess what? I have a new one if the corners bother my hands. Which they dont. I feel like they actually bite in juuuust a little bit and aid in gripping. I know I have something substantial in my hand.

Soaking the wood in WD 40 and wonders why the wood may have swelled? Probably came from the factory that way, sure, but if the oils and polymers in WD 40 displace water, then they may actually be REplacing the water and leading the wood to swell.

Now that my Crunch challenge has ended (I only went for the 15 day mark...), I have decided to go back to my 110 D2 Slim Pro as my daily carry.

I have noticed some nicking towards the blade tip. Some have complained that the heat treat was not done right on these knives. I have not used the blade hard yet I have nicks. Maybe they’re correct??

This is just speculation, but I wonder if that is done on purpose? What I mean - Does ebony tend to shrink as it dries out? If they finish it with more material, it would accommodate this to some degree. Or it could just be a six sigma item for Buck to deal with.
Rather mundane quote entered here to approximate humor.

That might be it, there’s no rivet but there is a part at the end.

But you really have to push hard for the blade to hit that end piece. It doesn’t do it when letting the blade snap shut.

Hmmm, not really sure what’s going on. I’m carrying it today. See what I can cut on to see if any more damage shows up.

Really hard to catch the nicks AND hold the phone/camera, but here you can see TWO nicks. They can’t both be caused but the blade hitting when shut.

Does the bolster not hit something stopping the blade hitting anything.
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Luckily they don’t seem to be very deep
Hopefully you can remove them easily
And then see if it will happen again

Gentlemen what are your thoughts on this YouTube video. The guy claims the Ebony scales on his new production 110 have swelled. Basically the wood is a little raised where it meets the brass on the corners and you can catch your nail on it. Mine too is exactly like this but it was like it when it was new and I can’t say it’s got worse. Personally I don’t think it’s swelling and more a case of not finished flush in the factory.

I made it a little over half way through the video before shutting it off. I kept thinking its better to be perceived as not being very bright than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Probably after you get sharpened past the thin factory edge you wont have any more chipping problems. I've had numerous knives do this over the years. Mostly with higher grade steels.

My grandpa’s 110. Needs some love from Buck. I’m just hesitant to send it in. 72 to 86 I believe.

Good looking 110.    :like:     Looks like it needs cleaning. You can do that without sending it in to Buck. How many dots does it have by the 110 stamp?

Very cool.  I would not hesitate to send it in. But specify that it holds great sentimental value as it goes back a few generations. At Buck they understand and appreciate that.   :tu:
