Rule #1 of firearm safety. Always point you firearm at somebody you don't like. You don't want to shoot a friend or a love one.

Can any of you experts help me out here?
I'm looking to get back into rifle shooting & have been looking for a low cost air rifle to break me in gently. I'm afraid the TX200 is a litle over budget.

The ones I have my eye on at the moment are from SMK
XS 41 (running favourite)
XS 38
XS 36

Has anyone any experience or thoughts on these models?

Airgunner certainly seems to like them, but there hardly impartial ::)

If you order a catalogue from Sports Marketing they will send you a nice magazine with all the reviews of the Airguns :)

Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I've no problem with SMK guns(I have a few ) but....

The XS41 looks very much like a TX200 knock off,the 36and 38 are a bit crude in finish, but the 38 rated better than the Gamo :twak: I mean BSA Polaris.  Have a look at
http://ukchineseairgunforum.myfreeforum.org/index.php for the inside line ;)

For that kind of money you could look at second hand BSAs,or at the upper end, second hand Weihrauchs :pok:

The TX has the anti-beartrap which you can just about see in the photo, the only scary thing is de-cocking it!

Wouldn't it de-cock like any standard break-barrel? Hold the lever, release the bear-trap, release the safet, and 'fire', while bracing the lever against slapping shut?

Kind of, three detents on the antibear trap, so you have to keep releasing it, it's also an under lever not a break barrel so if it does go wrong hour hand is in between two chucks of steel

Noticed my Brocock's grouping at 35m was getting really ragged.  Humm, scope seems OK, pellets I've been using for a while, pressure spot on..

....when exactly was the last time I cleaned the barrel?....

A quick pull through and shooting 1p groups at 35m again.  Perhaps I should have done this before the competition.

Decide to give my HW57 bit of a clean as well as the groups I was shooting on Friday evening were embarrassing. :-[  This is a little more involved than it is on most air rifles, due to the pop-up loader on the 57.

To remove the loader you need to take an o-ring off so as it can be lifted clear, to remove the o-ring easily you need to separate the whole action form the stock, to remove the stock you have to undo two slotted screws and two 4mm Allan screws.  I did discover that the front two Allan screw were pretty loose, which surely cannot have been helping the rifles consistency.

Thankfully it was all worth it as the pull-through patches were BLACK!  No wonder the thing was shooting rough.  As I still haven't put a whole tin of pellets though the thing it must have come from the factory that way.  Quite a few patches later and it was time to put it all back together.

Now I just need the hurricane outside to sod off so as I can go do some shooting. :-\  Tomorrow maybe.

Heres a pic of my Umarex Hammarli wich probably is a cheap piece of smurf compared to your fancy rifles ;)
I just fitted a cheap red dot sight on it I got on ebay. Much more fun now :D

That's supposed to be the quietest C02 out there, right? If I didn't deal with such extremes of temperature here in the desert southwest, I'd be more inclined to C02.

If its the Hammarli you are thinking about, then its a spring loaded rifle.

Are you thinking of one of the 850 Airmagnums?

They're sold as Hamemarlis in some markets

Get a scope, even funner.  :D

I think red dots are okay for pistols but waste of potential (of accuracy) on a rifle.

Some odd results form the HW57.  I get to the range and start shooting away with the H&N FTT pellets I've always used  in it and I'm still shooting some very ragged groups at 25 yards. :ahhh  "Maybe it's me?" I think, so keep plugging away.  Gets a bit better, but not by much.  I decide to give another pellet a try (AA Fields) and low and behold I'm suddenly getting tight groups again. ???

The onky thing I can think of is that it was the loose stock/action that was the real culprit and that the H&N pellets LIKED a dirty barrel, so by giving it a good clean I've ruined it for them.  On the other hand the AA Fields are happier with a clean barrel perhaps?  I feel like I am clutching at straws a bit here though so if anyone has a better explanation I'd love to hear it.

Long and short of it is; it is shooting straight again so I'm happy enough. :D

I think the more likely answer is the size/diameter of the pellet?

If the barrel of the 57 was dirty, then it's reducing the bore. If the H+Ns are..say 4.48, plus the lead in the bore equals a good fit. It your AAs are 4.52s,then you've got a good fit in the bore, while the H+Ns are rattling

Saying that,it usually takes 500 odd pellets to lead a barrel in

Well, my AA Fields are 4.51mm, but it still sounds plausible. :tu:

No, that gent's Co2 is what looks like our Umarex imported 'Fusion' in the USA.

"This single-shot pellet rifle takes advantage of CO2 valve technology and Umarex's SilencAir 5-chamber noise dampening system to make the Fusion one amazingly quiet airgun."

I've shot the LGV, which is quite the rage on this side of the pond now, but I want something of FAC power this time. I am hoping the Umarex will choose to import the Century model, and even the Terrus for the starters.

Thanks Kirk!!!

Had a nice Benjamin pump rifle in the 60's. Learned to shoot with it. It was stolen in the 80's...still miss that rifle.

Back in the 60's, we used to pack the pellet skirts with gunpowder from toy caps...you know, roll caps... and shoot them against brick walls....what a bang!!!

Really like 22 cal. airguns.

Thank you!

Lol, yes it was fun and if you shot it against a cinder block fence, it scored a spot the size of a quarter about an 1/32 of an inch deep. My buddy had a 177 cal rifle and it worked well with that caliber too.

You just trimmed around the tiny powder pocket and packed paper and all tightly with a small punch.

It's very simple, remove the guide rod screw, push the adapter onto the muzzle (it's oversized), replace the standard guide rod screw with the included longer version
