Latest toys!
on: July 24, 2009, 03:46:47 AM
Finally got my camera half-way working so I snapped some quick pics of some of my latest acquisitions.

Gerber MP600 in Yellow:

Leatherman Juice S2 in Orange:

Leatherman Kick:

The Gerber MP600 is a nice tool, and reminds me quite a bit of the old one I had back in the 90's. A real nice tool and that Yellow just pops! Couldn't beat the price and it came clamshell packed with a cheap Incan light. Gotta get a couple more of these, for the price it's a great deal.

The LM Juice is a real nice tool, and I like the size. Bigger than some of the pocket tools out there, but smaller than your average MT. A good pocketable size with larger tools. Fit and finish is real good up until you get to the scissors. These are by far the worst scissors I have come across on any tool I own, MT or SAK. They work, but they are sloppy loose at the pivot and the spring for them is real mushy feeling. Scissors notwithstanding, it's still a great little tool.

Now the Leatherman Kick was a impulse buy.....I happened to be at Target at the time looking at other things, stopped by the knife and tool isle to see if they put up anything new. Price was cheap and I don't own any of this style of LM so I said what the hell. Good solid build on these, real simple and basic. Would make for a good beat around the shop or work tool.

And then just today this bad boy came in..................

...............EagleTac P100C2 torch. This one has CREE's newest Q5 XP-E emitter, which is a tiny little thing. But it's output is comparable with other lights I have using the Q5 XR-E. Ordered it with their tailstand-capable tactical tailcap and one of their GITD boots (which will be it's permanent tailcap from now on). A superb light for the money. I'll have review of this puppy done up and posted as soon as I get some beamshots taken.

I'm like a kid in a candy store, I swear!  :D

The Yellow really does stand out, don't it? Not one easily lost that's for sure.

Ok, here's some porn of a few more I have recently got.............

Victorinox Red Alox Cadet:

Had to get this one as it's one of the colors in the Cadet line I didn't have. Still a couple more to go. I picked this one up when I picked up that LM Kick while at target.

Cold Steel KUDU:

I picked this one up a few months back but never got around to taking pics of it until now. Got it as a novelty, and it was dirt cheap. Surprisingly good quality given it's price. It's long and slim with a unique locking system. Just a revamp of a old design. It's neat, and very solid in build. A real nice user that can be had for under $10.00!!!!!

Buck 345 Vantage:

I've been a long time fan of Buck Knives. And a little while ago a friend of mine got the slightly fancier version of this knife and I liked it. Was at Bass Pro a few weeks back when they had these on sale for $19.99 and grabbed me one. A excellent inexpensive USA made folder. This is the base line Vantage with FRN handle and 420HC blade. F&F is excellent, typical Buck quality here. Linerlock locks up solid, blade opens smoothly and locks without any play, edge is a razor and cleanly ground, has a flipper on the tang, and it's a good size at 4 3/8" closed.

My only problem with this folder is that the pocketclip is set up for TIP-UP carry only.....which is a major NO-GO in my book. Outside of that it's a sweet folder.

Oh yeah, another toy arrived today.......... :mail:  A Flik on steroids!

Gerber Freehand:

Now this is my kind of MT, big and brawny. Got some heft to it too. Build on this one is just as good as my Flik but unlike my Flik this Freehand has a slight bit of rattle in the plier head when fully deployed. No biggie but one thing I wish they would have changed is the smaller tools, they are about the same size as the ones of the Flik. These could be bigger. What I do really like is the fact that on the Freehand the 2 main blades are studded unlike the thumbholes found on the Flik's blades. I can actually deploy the blades on this Freehand with one hand. Nice!  :tu:

But a real nice tool none the less, and comes with a much nicer sheath than my Flik, or those that came with a couple of others I have from Gerber. And it's definitely a beast.

I like it!  :tu:

Yeah, that get's me too. I don't make no sense. This tool, and even the Flik, could greatly benefit from some larger openers and drivers.

Gerber makes lots of stuff that gets me a .

Thanks for the comparison photograph. I was getting curious to see how much larger the freehand is.

Chako,

The Freehand is noticably larger than the Flik, in my view even more so in the hand than comparison pics really show. And weight, the Freehand feels as though it weighs half again more than the Flik.

Craig,

It is. Wish I would of bought a few more of them while they were still on sale.
