Update !! The drivers, while short are quite good  :tu:
Good to see, that you're still razor sharp in your reviews...  :tu:

 :D                      :D

LOL I've got my own style  :D  By the way, here's another observation... I'm not keen on the sheath as it's made from flimsy material. I think the pointed plier tips will put a hole in either end of the sheath over time  :(

I bought a 600 off Ebay the other day and am looking forward to it's arrival.  I don't own a Gerber tool
so this will round out the collection of users quite nicely.

I'd be interested to hear how you feel about your new Gerber.

As much as I would love to find a Gerber Multi I love I just always seem to be disapointed in them.

My favorite Gerber Multitool today is the Gerber MPT (military provisional tool)  http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=735.0
It is the least Gerberesque multi I've seen, and it was very different than the Gerber roundup at the time, it reminds me of a Leatherman PST.

Now, I don't mean to bash Gerber here, I think Gerber makes great knives.  However I don't like knives, I like multi-tools.

Yeah will let you know what I think of it.   :) I do not have a Gerber multi other than a clutch which will be a
Christmas gift so it's not even out of the package.  I'm all for easily accessible tools not often using the
pliers most days unless in the shop but I know the Gerber 600 design and bought it anyhow because I am
curious.

Odd you should mention the MPT Crouton as I think that tool is the worst tool I have ever handled (by a long way!).  :D  Just goes to show that different tools do it for different people.

Oh, look at that...

Did you see that too? 'Cause I was reading and then I saw that... that.

 :D

A.

PS I've never had the chance to play with a Gerber MT. I own Victorinox MT's, I've been playing with Leathermans, but Gerbers are still a new world to me. Hard to find in stores here in Roma.

I said it was my favorite Gerber multi, not that it was a great tool :)  I was trying to be nice.  And yes it can be a bit flimsy.

The MPT is a funny thing.

If the MPT had been the first / only multitool I'd ever seen, I think I'd love it. Sure, it's a bit flimsy, but it's not weak, it's pretty tough in fact. The pliers are good, the tools in the handles are decent (especially compared to some of the newer Gerber offerings), it's reasonably compact. It's a good tool, if a little uncomfortable to use.

The MPT's biggest problem was / is the Leatherman PST. The PST is a bit more compact, a bit more comfortable, the tools are a bit better, the pliers are better. Overall the PST has about a dozen slight improvements that add up to being a big difference.

The MP600 is my favourite Gerber though, together with the original Multiplier. I think they are great tools.

I used to come here a lot.

See I thought it was shoddily made, was really uncomfortable and was generally a pile of old poo.  :D  If that had been my first one I doubt I would have gotten into them at all as that would have put me off.  The only thing I liked was the awl, almost everything else on it I had issues with.
I'm back!!

Just received my new MP-600.  Does anyone know if you can tighten up the pivot heads so the tools
don't wobble around so much?  Thanks.  (and I know if any of the Leatherman boy's see this they're
gonna laugh) :P

Think the pliers wobble to aid in the deployment/wrist flick, so I'm not sure I would mess with the mechanism. I have mp 400, 600 and diesel and all wobble.

Is it the pliers wobbling that's the problem Sean - or the tools in the handles?

I think he means the plier head. The wobblr has nothing to do with the rivet, if you look closely, it seems to come from the base of each plier head - where it attaches to the sliding mechanism. When you grip tight on the tool using the pliers, wobble goes away, so its not really a problem.

It's all the tools are a bit loose, like the file, knife etc in the handles.  :)

That's what I thought you meant!

I've not taken one of the MP600s with those funny fasteners apart yet. They're the ones that almost look like rivets but have a notch at 12, 3, 6 & 9 O'clock, yeah?

I used to come here a lot.

Yes indeed those are the rivets.  If I look at the ends of the frame though housing the tool I suppose there
isn't a heck of alot of room for a tweak.  That's ok though, the one thing the tools don't clump which is a
nice feature and they are very easy to extract so that is a positive.  It will be my carry for today.

I'm going to do a bit of a modification on mine.  I see when the two blades (pe & serrated) snap shut from
the open position the blade edges hit the metal handle frame and cause a bit of a flat spot where they
strike.  I bought some Krazy glue and I'm going to glue a fitted portion of popsicle  stick on the handle
so when the blade snaps closed it hits the wood not the frame.
