Soldier Anniversary
on: July 31, 2009, 09:50:41 PM
Why does the NEW soldier 1981 model anniversary cost so much? I know some USED 1891 original  have been sold on ebay for 500 to 800 Bucks but a NEW REPLICA is been sold for about 400, 500 dollars... Isn't that too much ? I wish my pockets were that deep.... :ahhh

My guess is because in order to produce it they need to open new line of production - the parts for that knife was specially produced - they are not in use by any other knfe they making (at the moment). and that cost money .

Ok sounds good but that's too much...and BTW they could keep it as a regular production item for 2 or 3 years and lower the price....But MR. Elsener don't think like me....

I think they would SELL LOTS OF IT!!! And make everybody happy!

Yah I wondered about that too M.TEX  It seems like Victorinox specializes in high volumes/great quality/reasonable prices. Selling the Anniversary Soldiers for such a high price means many of us will never get to enjoy them. :( I'd rather they made a lot more of them and were therefore able to lower the price to a reasonable level. :-\

Although I'd like a cheaper one, having them at such a high price makes them even more special to own for some people.  I bet they have no trouble at all selling the lot of them, even at that price.
I'm back!!

The high price does make them rather exclusive, and will keep them a safe investment :)

However I'd like them to make a cheaper, second string version that we'd all be more comfortable using, but I can't see that happening anytime soon sadly :-\
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I am not sure why i think nothing of spending 400 to 500 for a Leatherman, but stop at the Victorinox.

I keep thinking i would be better off buying the special edition scaled SwissChamps like the 2 hard woods, 2 horns, and the mother of pearl.

These are truly collector's items in every way. Last year Wenger did theirs for exactly the same price. There are people who are users and some who are collector's and a few who are both. Personally I think that these will make a great investment due to the extreme limited production.

Good point about not blinking at that price for a Benchmade or any of a dozen other knives - why not a Victorinox? Also, I spend nerly that much for some of my high end flashlights. Go figure.

but now days I have to think a lot before invest 100 , 200 dollars on that type of things....
I know there are lots of people that can do....but all what i can do is whish to have money
one day to buy stuff without thinking on how I gonna make $$$ to get buy another week...

If you can do it ( and wives don't mind ) why not ? I know some day they will cost much more...

Now that they have the tooling for the 100mm parts, I wonder if we won't see something else in this line.  I don't think it will be any mass production item, that probably requires tooling on a different scale.  With the current economy and crazy environment for knives in Europe and Airports everywhere, I think they will be cutting back on the knives.  The 108mm is gone, 84mm is probably next (although we'll have Wenger 85mm).

I'm afraid we are leaving a golden age, and it might be a while before it returns.

I still don't see why this one is so pricey.

I am eating crow however, as I distinctly recall mentioning that it was too pricey, and that it would be better to buy a few SwissChamps instead.

Well, you know what happened?

I am in collector mode now, and I have the rest of the 4 125 jubilee pieces and it just wouldn’t be complete without that knife. Sigh.

I am just going to have to get the Special Edition SwissChamps at a later date I guess when funds permit. :(
