A bit of Googling and I came up with two materials that are sold under the name cellidor one is: cellulose propionate, the other is: cellusose acetate butyrate.  The second seems more likely as one of the quoted uses was as "tool handles".  Does that help?

The plus scales are made from the boiled bones of special under bridge dwelling Swiss trolls  >:D

Just remember not the eat the aluminium mate it's liked to alzheimer's IIRC........oh never mind. :-\
