Leatherman knife help
on: May 03, 2007, 11:25:47 PM
I have this model here http://www.leatherman.com/products/knives/c302-c303/default.asp but it has a phillips and a flat head screwdriver in the knife as well.  I can't seem to figure out exactly what model this is.  but it does look exactly like this one as far as handle blade etc..

It sounds like you are describing the C308.  I've only seen it as part of the combo pack with the Surge--available at Costco and possibly elsewhere.

Oh yah, I remember JoeBW telling us in some thread that this model was unlike any of the regular catalog Leatherman knives, and only available in that Surge combo set.

There's a set for sale HERE

(They were originally sold at Costco for quite a bit more than that IIRC.)

THe knife is as good as any of the other ones, I like it alittle better because the handles are metal.  I don't think they are available anymore.  If they are let me know, I will get more of them.  :pok:

inkster,

Can you put up some more photos of it?  It looks like it may be thicker than the catalog knives it compares to.  It looks just like the c304 with metal scales.

Tom

Hello,

The c308 is a c304 with the c302 gray anodized aluminum scales.  It was done for Costco in 2006 and came as part of a gift set with a Surge neatly packaged in an aluminum display case.

Cheers - Joe

Congrats!

Wow, that never happens to me....I usually find the $11 deal only AFTER I've spent the money on the $30 deal.  :P

I bought 3.  A co-worker will probably want one but I'll probably have one extra if someone is interested.

From the same seller as the one I bought from?  I think he had 8 for sale...

I wish Leatherman would design a blade that's 90% plain edge, and have the last 10% near the handle serrated, just for breaking through something tough or stringy like rope.  I never had the need for half the blade to be serrated.  Oh well, for $11 brand new this might be my new EDC knife to replace my little CRKT fixed blade.

It's yours if you want it.  Since I saved on combined shipping the cost will be a little less than $11.  Let's say $10 plus the cost of shipping to Canadaland, eh.

How sharp out of the box are these Leatherman knives generally?

About as sharp as yours will be- I don't think I ever cut anything with it!

They seem to be about average for any decent knife production company.  An old SOG Mini Pentagon was the sharpest I had ever seen out of the box, and the LM is nowhere near that level... but then neither has anything else I've had since then.  It definately cuts better than the blades found on their tools, but then alot of that probably has more to do with edge geometry than "sharpness" per se.
