I need to get something off my chest....
on: August 11, 2009, 10:43:21 PM
Hey guys, I need to get something off my chest. When I first registered onto this website, I thought you had to be at least 18 years old to register, so I lied about my age. I'm really 17 years old. I'm not a cop, by I will be in the near future. I made up a lie or two to try and make myself look better. The Bear Grylls knife especially.. I still have a TON of multitools, they weren't a lie. I'll have to get some collection shots up at some point...I'm, not a photographer or anything!  :D I have a camera. I have lost a plethora of things off my dads boat though, a camera included. There, it's off my chest. If I get banned for this, I deserve it... I have really enjoyed my time here at MTO. I have traded for some great things!!!

So yeah, there's the truth. This took a lot of balls LOL, so please don't "roast" me or anything.

 :salute:

That "no one under 18" never stopped me when I was 12, haha.  Granted, I'm 20 now... urg, I feel old just saying that. ._.

First off I think most everyone knew most of that, I argued with you over PM's about your claiming to be a cop (that really pissed me off).  You will probably get some well deserved heat from some.  This is all I will say....I knew you were lying about some things but I am willing to let it all go providing you be honest.  No one here is judgmental about what tools you have, what job you have, about anything.  If you promise to just BE YOURSELF I can move-on.   BUT THATS JUST ME.

17? How can you afford all those tools!?! At least that explains all the exclamation points... ;)

Next time just say you are 18, ok? I think it may have prevented a few minor misunderstandings. And we probably wouldn't have ridden you as hard about the camera.  :D

I think the situation with a previous member was very different because it involved a bad trade. From what people say, you are a great, reliable trader.

I sincerely hope you stick around. The place wouldn't be the same without you. :)

Glad you 'fessed up. I am ok with it.  :salute:

I give you credit for your honesty :salute:

it's sad you felt you needed to make up that stuff, we accept every tool nut ;)

Grant is very cool, just my opinion but I doubt he would ban you, especially after coming out.

Honesty appreciated, now will we get pix! :P

Yeah, Def should add a line to the registration specifically asking young guys not to pretend they are cops. Seems to be a trend lately...

FWIW, it could also be taken as a compliment by those who really are. Doesn't excuse it at all though...

Nikko, I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of us here already knew that.  The problem with one lie is that it usually needs another to cover it and so on and so on and in the end outragous claims (like all the sports you were a champ in and the Bear Grylls knife) are made that are less and less believeable.  I can understand lying about your age, especially in todays climate but in an attempt to make your story believeable you made it completely unbelieveable and I think that is shown by the comments in this thread.

Saying that though, saying the above must have taken some guts and I hope we will see the true Nikko from now on.

Yea, I didn't know what your story was but I was pretty sure you weren't a cop. Your comments often were immature and your bragging about everything just made it obvious something was amiss.

I'm sorry but finally "coming clean" after lying for a long time doesn't take a lot of balls. It just means that finally you couldn't keep all your lies straight.

It would have been one thing to simply lie about your age. Heck, if I was 16 and I wanted on here I'd lie about that but I have a problems with the other lies. Especially the part about being a cop. I'm not a cop but I am a disabled veteran. Just like I did, cops serve their country and sometimes die doing it and it sickens me when people claim to be one. Just like when people claim to be a war hero when they're not. I'm sorry but that's just a little pet peeve of mine. Those aren't "little white lies" so you can talk on here, those are big lies meant to either, make other people respect you or make yourself feel bigger.

Now,that said, I'm not gonna quit talking to you or pout in a corner but I think you'll understand if I don't believe everything you say.

In my head i had Leatherman123 pictured as an older man ..say 45 to 55ish with a Post Office downstairs across the street from the Leatherman factory. :D

Good luck on being a cop! I always wanted to be in law enforcement but i don't have the temperment to do it. I'd "Rodney King" someone in a heartbeat and i'd prob be on the take should i come across millions in dope money. >:D   oh well

Nikko, this is no confession.  As many have already said, this was not something unknown to us.  We ALL knew you were a kid, and not a cop!!  LOL.  A cop.  :police:  This confession/apology is more for yourself then for us.  It is, like you said, your need to get something off your chest.  We've all called you on being a cop, or rescuing things, or any number of obviously fabricated stories.  The interesting dynamic about this site is we are all tool users.  Tool users need a certain level of ingenuity and intelligence, as they are to some degree, tinkerers.  Therefore, as generally ingenius and intelligent men, we can all put two and two together.  It's good to see you come clean, but I'm not sure I will be so quick to dismiss all the months and months, maybe years, of lies.  It doesn't mean I want you banned or anything, but.... well, look at it this way.  Welcome to the man's club, son.  Now you have to earn your spot.
Hope this confession made you feel better.

But age has never been a disqualifier here. Baby hawkchucker is 7 and has been to a group meetup, and actually looks over my shoulder on the board quite frequently. She speaks highly of Uncle Bob and Def, and age ment nothing to them. Hell i think it is cool having kids blow into here. I have been known to like kids! and sometimes they let us see things in dif eyes.

But as a Ex Cop I dont have to expected to forgive everything, but kid just be yourself and be honest. The rest is just a kid being a kid.

In all honesty, I have typed a confession post at least once a week and just couldn't send it. I figured I would get banned and I wouldn't be able to talk/trade multitools... So, if you guys can give me a chance, I promise it will be 100% me. I'll get some pics up tonight perhaps! I wish I would have done this sooner...  :-[

LM123 just a couple things.

You're a young almost adult. If you are thinking of law enforcement, your integrity is crucial.  If your colleagues start doubting your word, your work or your integrity, you become a liability to them.  Keep that in mind next time a "little" lie seems the easy way out.

As penance, say 5 hail marys, and post up 5 pics of your favorite MTs.

BTW, don't be surprised if there are folks who don't totally trust your posts for a while, trust has to be earned.

That is the thing about lies. It starts off small and innocent, and before you know it, they get bigger and bigger until you eventually get caught.

I am happy that you confessed more for yourself then for the rest of us.

I sort of figured it out 3 weeks from joining. Little things didn't add up.

I have to get this off my chest too.................................. Multitoolman is not real, I made it up for the same reasons LM123 did about being a cop.............to look cool! :D

Making things up is not cool man especially about being a cop, its about respect they go out there in harms way to make our community a safer place.... the title have to be earned and to pretend to be a cop should be criminalize.........Opps it is a crime to pretend to be a cop.

All I have to say is everything makes sense now.  Lying about being in law enforcement is a real bummer, and could get you in some heat later if you ever decide to pursue it further.  I knew things didn't add up a few times, but I'm not the most perceptive person out there (just ask my wife), but I am curious about the other things you lied about.  Oh well, thanks for coming clean I guess.

Edit: I just realized I have more to say on this subject.  We have done in my estimation probably 8-9 trades with each other, most of which went smoothly.  However, one trade sticks out in my mind, it was for my Wave and Surge.  The Surge showed up, but the Wave didn't.  Or did it?  How can I trust what was said now.  I went out and bought another Wave, and shipped it to you so you would be happy in the end.  Did I really have the money to spend? No, but I had enough integrity and trust that if you said it was what happened, then thats what happened.  You can learn a lot about integrity from a lot of the members on here.  Like when Gadget Guy bailed you out for a trade gone sour.  That left a lasting impression on me.  I know I may not be the speediest of shippers, but I always try to make it right in the end if something doesn't show up.  I think I have said all I need to say right now.  Some may lambaste me for what I said, but I felt it needed to be said.  Sorry if I came across too strong, but let this be a lesson in life.  Lying sucks, and it pisses people off, and then they don't trust you anymore.

Here's the issue with the lies.  Some people on here made sales/trades of knives to a minor.  You sold or traded knives to a 17 year old kid, if he's even THAT old!!  I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that's not exactly in accordance with the law.  Granted, non of you knew, but that's the point.  These lies could have gotten someone on here in a whole heap of trouble.  Could have gotten this whole FORUM in trouble, and in effect, gotten Def in a whole world of trouble for allowing it to happen.  Granted, noone knew, but again, THAT'S the point.

I agree I believe you and I traded once and if I would have known your age or the circustances I am not sure I would have done that.
