Strange instruction for Benchmade ERT1
on: August 14, 2009, 07:58:05 PM
I thought this is pretty strange, in the instruction manual for ERT1, in capital and bold letters:

"ALWAYS KEEP BLADE EDGE SHARP - DO NOT RESHARPEN WITH ABRASIVES".

What? Doesn't the whole concept of sharpening mean remove material with abrasives?  ??? ???

Didn't you read the fine print? They want you to buy replacement blades from them!  :D
Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much!

Could it be if you sharpen it it will remove a protective coating like Glock knives have?

They probably just mean don't crack out the grinding wheel.

How do you like the Benchmade ERT1?  I have been thinking of getting one and wondered people who had them thought of them.

Never got a chance to use it, thankfully.  :P Gave it to my parents and just sit in the center console.

I feel it's designed for people who use it more often, not regular joe who might need it someday. For that a smaller one like res-q-me is more suited and you can tether it somewhere quick to reach in case you need it.

The lithium coin cells used for the LED are tiny, they could've easily fitted 2016 or 2032 in there for much longer runtime.

Is there any difference in quality between the discontinued ERT1 and the rebranded Houdini  ones?

Just the box art- the Houdini Pro and ERT-1 are the same tool.

And, for the record, I tried sharpening it with old underpants, but that didn't work so well, so I think I may have to break the rules and go back to abrasives!

Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

I bought the Benchmade ERT 1 shortly after my first post on this thread.  I haven't needed to sharpen it.  It's nice to know I have it in my vehicle just in case.
