Fossilized Mammoth Handled Handmades.
on: July 20, 2022, 07:58:09 PM
These three all have fossilized Mammoth ivory handles.
The top two are by George Garner, a New Mexico knifemaker.
The folder on the bottom is one I special ordered from Kurt Swearingen, another New Mexico knifemaker.

Gorgeous.  I really like them all.  What steel do the have?  The decorative pins are a nice touch as is the blue stone on the first one.

The steel on the two Garner-made fixed blades is 440c, and that stone is turquoise pieces set in some kind of epoxy.
The steel on the Swearingen-made folder is CPM 154 CM stainless.
By the way, the fixed blade knives are both full tapered tang.
And Thank you, Aloha for the kind comments  :hatsoff:
Thanks also to pfrsantos and David  :hatsoff:

I thought it might be turquoise  :dd:.  They really are something special.  Tapered tangs as well  :tu:.  Now I should have also asked, did they come with as nice of sheaths?

I love 440C.  I have one maybe two knives in that steel.  Its great when the heat treat done well as I'm sure yours is.  Come to think of it I have an older Buck 110 in 440C as well.  It was and is great hard use steel.

The sheaths are all handmade and very well designed and crafted. I, too, am partial to 440C. Ease of sharpening and ability to hold an edge through periods of heavy use is why.
