Favourite Engine Types?
on: August 21, 2009, 10:49:08 PM
In it's broadest terms, and forgetting about enviromental and running cost factors, what's you favourite engine type and why?

I'm a big fan of two strokes :)

They respond to tuning better than four strokes, are lighter and simpler, any numpty can fix one, and can be VERY green when direct injection is used (greener than a comparable four stroke for instance) and quite economical :)

Plus the whole sound and smell is truly addictive :)

You've got 2 votes each :)

I'm suprised the resident tree hugger prefer 2 stroke.  :twak:

4 stroke for me. Gas if it's a car and diesel if it's a truck.

I did say forgetting enviromental concerns ::)

Besides direct injection strokers are the cleanest engines around that still use fossil fuels :tu:

Preferred?  Gotta love diesel engines.  Burns anything with a carbon chain, no electricity needed to run it (ie it'll run underwater if there's a snorkel for air)and excellent fuel economy to boot.

For power equipment, 2 strokes rule because you can tip the damned thing upside down if you want and it'll run fine (try that with a 4 stroker).

I do have a soft spot for my Ducati DS1000 aircooled 4 stroke however.

Front wheel drive think of all that 'torque steer'  :P :P :D :D
The idea of having to have your hand constantly over the clutch in case of an inadvertent engine seizure does not seem very relaxing way of giving you bike the berries  .
2 stroke  bikes are very popular in the UK , I wonder why   all that rain , narrow power band ....................(Mad Dogs & Englishmen I guess :P :P)

voted for diesel engine because it can run on vegetable oil with no conversion on the engine.
