Many coffee drinkers in the house?
on: August 22, 2009, 11:38:54 AM
I am a pretty big coffee drinker and at work and when I visit people everyone knows that when they stick the kettle on, Ben would like a coffee. I have always appreciated a decent coffee, but have never really taken note of any particluar types or brands, so I was wondering what all you coffee drinkers would recommend?

Cheers.

Oh, yes  :-[

Still, Chako's suggestion is a step up from this...

Quote
Blackadder: Now Baldrick, fix me some coffee, and make it taste slightly less like mud this time.
Baldrick: Not easy I'm afraid, Sir
Blackadder: And why is this?
Baldrick: 'cause it is mud. We ran out of coffee 13 months ago
Blackadder: Brilliant. So every time I've drunk your coffee for the past 13 months, I have in fact, been drinking, hot mud.
Baldrick: With sugar...
Blackadder: ...which makes all the difference
Baldrick: Well, it would if we had any sugar, but we ran out New Years Eve 1915. Since when, I've been using sugar substitute...
Blackadder: ...Which is?
Baldrick: Dandruff. But I could add some milk this time, or, Saliva
Blackadder: No thank you Baldrick. Call me Mr. Picky, but I think I'll pass.
Baldrick: That's probably because you're mad, sir!
Blackadder: Well, quite!

That whole series is a classic.

I think I would be adventurous enough to try it at least once...if it wasn't so darn expensive.

But then, I did take an entomology course and the Professor was a true bug eater. He prepared for his class several dishes. I was brave enough to eat cricket salad to try it out. It didn't taste all that bad once you got past the bad texture.

Kopi Luwak is nice. But too expensive so I just have 2-3 cups a year when I´m in my favorite coffeeshop.
So is Jamaica Blue Mountain, really good but expensive!

I EDD (every day drink) Nespresso brand Ristretto. I love good espresso, no milk EVER in my coffee. Sugar sometimes, but no milk, no cream, no whitener. Coffee has to be as dark as my soul ;) The Nespresso system is imho the best of all that "disk based" machines. More expensive (about 50 cent a cup) than normal coffee, but it tastes almost as good as real espresso made by a skilled barista. I can afford my 5-6 cups a day, so it´s OK.

Guess I will get a Vibiemme Domobar machine when I can afford one. Or a Rancilio Silvia. These two are considered to be among the very best home-use espresso machines ever, so I hope they are worth the money. Just have to train my barista skills then, for no machine can make great coffee if the user is a noob.

Love coffee.

Best way to make it (IMO) is espresso (latte or capuccino if you want milk).  Next best is French press.

I prefer an Italian roast most of the time.  There's a local place that roasts its own and is quite good.

From the store, I like LaVazza in Blu for the espresso machine.

I don't drink coffee that much but when I do, it's always a double espresso with two sugars.  I love the kick that espresso gives.

I don't drink coffee except for when I'm in the mood, typically a large, dark bookstack mocha, iced or hot.  The only problem with coffees is that it has one of two effects on me:  I either become uberhyper, or I become so tired, I become the walking, asleep zombie. XD

I drink probably a half a pot or more of coffee by myself everyday followed by maybe a mountain dew or an energy drink like monster somewhere along the day. I am a major coffee person, would drink it all day if I could I think.

I love a good cup of coffee.  As far as brands go, for me, any quality brand of bean makes a good cup.  Dunkin Donut brand, Starbucks beans, Door County, etc.  I am sure most quality companies roast the same beans so it is hard to find a poor quality bean.  In a rush I choke down Folgers crystals which is more a black sludge than coffee.....but what do you do.

Personally, I avoid the stuff. I'm scared of it actually. :( So many people I know simply cannot function without their coffee "fix". Knowing my incredibly weak constitution, I don't want this to be me: :ahhh

I need coffee or I don't feel right.  Summer is in full swing so it's mainly iced coffee for me after one cup of hot in the morning.

I'm not too into brands as long as it isn't garbage (Chase & Sandborn is a brand I avoid).  Dunkin' Donuts is really good, but I order it black with cream on the side because no matter how much you express that you want it VERY DARK you usually get a coffee milk like drink.

I got a new coffee-machine in the spring, and omg what a difference!

from ehh/ok coffee to yum/more please! makes a difference, no more cheap
machines for me!

I bought a grinder/chopper and I've been grinding my own beans
(do it for only the smell!  )

I get Dunkin Donuts whole bean or want to get Boyds (local place,
but they ship).

I go in swings, drink it for a week or 2, then leave it for a week or 2.
before my good machine (Bunn GTX) it was months in between ;)

Yep.... I like Community brand whole bean coffee. Grind the coffee beans at home and using a french press. Around Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday we order Kona coffee for the family dinners.  My gosh, is that good stuff!!  Just too expensive for the daily grind....pun intended. ;)
