Noob question: does this vic exist?
on: August 22, 2009, 12:52:33 PM
Hi, I own a SwissChamp and its great and all, but I could do without some of the tools.
My main reason for getting it, was the phillips located on top instead of bottom.

Is there a vic out there with these tools? (or close)

Large blade
pen blade
caplifter
can opener
phillips ( on top not under)
corkscrew

and one or more of these:
file
saw
scissors

it would be great with plus scales, but i recon i could just replace them with my champs.

Other than that, there is the Explorer (as above but no saw) and then your up to the Champion which is the same as your Champ but without the pliers.

Thanks. The woodsman looks very nice indeed.
I have looked at the explorer, and it seems if one would like the phillips placed on top, it needs to be paired with magnifier or an led light.

Must be the width of the phillips.

How cool would it be if they made a starter kit vic, that you could buy replacement tools for and mix and match to a certain extent?
break the tip of the blade? just get a new blade and replace the old. :tu:

You're spot on, the in-line Phillips is only ever found with either the LED or magnifier.  What can go where can be found on page 4 of this thread; http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,9808.0.html

BTW having just put together a Woodsman I can tell you it's a great tool. :tu:  The nearest modern equivalent I can think of (it even has a couple more back tools and Plus scales) is the Huntsman Lite.  http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Huntsman+Lite

PS I would love it if Vic sold kits or parts, but I can't ever see it happening. :-\

The easiest way to get one would be to remove what you don't want from a Swisschamp or Champion.

If you are looking at top-side phillips, have you seen the Cybertool line? (cybertool 29, 34, and 41)

http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Cybertool

They have a top-side bit holder with a selection of usefull bits. Very handy.

Huntsman lite has most of what you want , with the exception of the file , plus an LED lite . Plus scales should be no problem.
